B&W sold to a Silicon Valley start up company

HI AcuDefTechGuy, All of our current bookshelf and floor standing products feature a locking tweeter guard that has dramatically reduced the number of tweeters that are broken. Whether it's aluminum, titanium or diamond, a pushed-in tweeter usually requires replacement. Soft domes can sometimes...

B&W sold to a Silicon Valley start up company

Think human hair thickness. As for how thick, I don't have the spec in my office. The diamond grows on a substrate which is later dissolved. So yes, they are pure diamond. As for why we use diamond, that was driven by engineering. Pistonic operation in the HF and LF and controlled flexibility in...

B&W sold to a Silicon Valley start up company

Best of luck with your treatments. I have had a number of friends go through them and while all recovered, it was hard going. I loved seeing the photos of your systems and the construction of the transmission line speakers with that looks like SEAS drivers. Best regards, Patrick Bowers & Wilkins

B&W sold to a Silicon Valley start up company

Hello TLS Guy, Thank you for sharing some of your recollections. As someone who came into the industry in the early 90s in the U.S., so much of what I know of audio had become commercialized and the hobbyist aspect became about the purchasing of products rather than the technical exercise of...

B&W sold to a Silicon Valley start up company

Hi TLS Guy, I'm not sure where this became contentious and there certainly wasn't an intent to do so on my end. I recall Dynaudio leaving the DIY market and ceasing the sales of their drive units to other manufacturers including one I worked for at the time. Regarding the sales of raw drivers...

B&W sold to a Silicon Valley start up company

Deciphering causation or correlation from past events can be tricky. Did the exit of manufacturers selling their drivers to the DIY market cause the decline of interest in high quality audio, or was it the other way around? Perhaps there were other market forces at work that moved manufacturers...

Trouble with Bowers and Wilkins 804 D3

I’ve seen many destroyed diamond domes over the years, and they were fine about a second before a curious finger gave them a good, hard push. Regarding playback levels, we crank our 800D3s past 105dB, and it’s simply not an issue. Regards, Patrick Bowers & Wilkins

Trouble with Bowers and Wilkins 804 D3

Hi Turk, Sorry to hear that you are having issues. I’ve spent a considerable amount of time hammering 804D3s with a Rotel RB-1590, and they sailed through the music. That said, you’ve got a problem, and I’d like to help out. PM me, and we’ll get this resolved. Best regards, Patrick Butler...

Bowers & Wilkins 50th Anniversary and 800 D3 Speakers Unveiled

Hi Defcon, There isn't a new direction per se, but rather the desire to integrate new capabilities. It should be said that products like our Zeppelin Wireless already incorporate features such as Spotify Connect, so we were already headed in this direction. At then end of the day, whether you...
