    Dynamic Records

So if you're like me you're sick & tired of putting a CD into your player with a big grin on your face only to be disappointed by how fruggin loud it is. Your face probably looks like this at first, :D, then,, then :(, and finally . Anyway, I wanted to start a new thread to find...

Do I really need an upgrade?

Thanks for the help. I think I'm gonna hold off on the new receiver after hearing from you guys. BTW, if you're interested I'm going to be starting a new thread called "Dynamic Records". Come check it out if you're sick of "the loudness wars";)

Do I really need an upgrade?

Does having more headroom mean a slightly more dynamic sound? Like when you play a piece like The Firebird suite from Fantasia 2000, the HUGE climax will sound a little more powerful? Sorry if I'm not using the right words, I'm a little tired.

Do I really need an upgrade?

Thanks for the quick response. It just seemed like so many people seem to make a big deal about HDMI lossless audio. I do have a problem with some blu-rays when they have PCM audio. I have to stick with Dolby digital, but even that sounds pretty good. Check out Kill Bill 2 on Blu-ray, that has...

Do I really need an upgrade?

Seeing as how there seems to be so many knowledgeable people here, I thought I'd ask a pretty basic question. (like a question about audio is ever simple ;) ) Anyway, my current setup consists of a Harman Kardon AVR-146, Infinity Beta 20 bookshelf speakers, Infinity Qe speakers used as...

    Harman Kardon is saying "PROTECT"

Thanks for all the help you guys. I think the problem has gone away since I haven't seen the message since the first time. This really is my favorite site for Q&A's and I think this thread can be closed, unless someone else has a question. Laterz! Adam

    Harman Kardon is saying "PROTECT"

I've been using for the setup for awhile now & nothing seems to be going wrong. I will be setting the crossover to 80hz after writing this & I hope that works a little better. There's a lot to learn in this field, but it's so worth it:D Thanks so much guys, I really can't think of a better...

    Harman Kardon is saying "PROTECT"

Actually guys, I think the problem was that two speakers wires were connecting. I've been watching for a whole day, and nothing seems to be happening. Speakers look just fine and everything seems to be in order. I have set the crossover at 100hz and I'm pretty sure that's right for the Betas...

    Harman Kardon is saying "PROTECT"

I disconnected the speakers and it doesn't seem to be turning off or coming up "PROTECT". I'm going to plug the speakers in & see what happens. Lets hope nothing bad happens. But tell me this, if everything works out fine, what could the problem have been? Thanks for the quick reply. Adam...

    Harman Kardon is saying "PROTECT"

Thought someone might know what's going on with my Receiver. It's a Harman Kardon AVR-146 and my setup consists of Infinity Beta 20 Bookshelf speakers, a Brand new Velodyne Impact-10 subwoofer and a Pioneer BDP-320 Blu-ray player. I run the audio through a digital optical cable if that helps...

My very first Amplifier & I need help!

I currently have Plantation shutters on my window, so I'm not sure how curtains are gonna look. BTW, I just finished watching Kill Bill Volume 2 and all I can say after changing the speakers is...Oh...my...god. The track that plays at the end over the actor titles, the spanish guitar one...

My very first Amplifier & I need help!

Well pretty soon I'm going to be getting a bed with a fabric headboard, so would that change the how I hear things? Don't get me wrong, It's not like the sound is overly harsh. Just that occasionally it seems "slightly" unnatural. BTW, here's the bed I'm looking at if you don't know what I mean...

My very first Amplifier & I need help!

I just listened to some classical cds I forgot I had (Schubert, Beethoven) & The National's cd "The Boxer". :DThey sound like how cds should sound. The drums in The Boxer are just fantastic, a nice healthy boom & snap. I'm starting to realize my problem doesn't lie in my gear, just the terrible...

My very first Amplifier & I need help!

I started leaving the grills off a few months ago actually. The sound is a slightly more detailed, then again it could be more the placebo effect. BTW, how would you rate the Beta 20's, I think for my first setup it was a solid choice. Your thoughts on them?

My very first Amplifier & I need help!

After listening to everyones fantastic advice, including setting the speakers to small, I'm sure I hear a much improved sound. I'm also ordering a Subdude riser, but before I purchased I wanted to try out a improvised riser made out of books for stand, a piece of MDF for the top covered with a a...

My very first Amplifier & I need help!

I'm gonna try living with the speakers set to small for a few days, but I'm pretty sure that should help a lot. I didn't realize that setting it to large used much more power, duh. I was wondering though, do different receivers & different brands sound different, or is the sound quality more...

My very first Amplifier & I need help!

Thanks for getting back. The size of my room is 11x13 with 9ft ceilings. There are times when cranking really brings out the dynamics, but living with other people puts limitations on how loud you can go. :) To your other question, I currently have a 2.1 system and I don't see that changing, not...

In case anyone wants to see this, here you go. BTW, it's really fantastic that sites like Audioholics, AVS & Blu-ray.com seem to really care about their users. The Beginning...:D http://www.blu-ray.com/community/gallery.php?member=Adam41591

My very first Amplifier & I need help!

    1) Yes they have always been at ear level, amazing what a difference that made. 2) Seeing as the tweeters are at ear level, I'm sure the stands are the right height. 3) Yes they're positioned correctly. 4) They are in fact toed in, but I've never tried toe-out. Wouldn't that affect the...
