Can I do a 3.1 channel without screwing up the imaging?

Thanks, but can I still use the various surround modes the same as I would with 5.1?

Can I do a 3.1 channel without screwing up the imaging?

When I mentioned "imaging" I meant the sound imaging, not video. Sorry for the confusion. What I'm concerned with is losing musical information. For example, if you listen to an SACD in multi-channel mode through a two channel amp/receiver, you will lose some sound effects on some recordings. I...

Can I do a 3.1 channel without screwing up the imaging?

I would like to have a set up including left, right, center speakers and sub with no surrounds (I don't have the center and sub yet). I don't want to deal with wiring and added costs of surrounds at the moment (possible future upgrade), but I want the benefits of all the rest. I have a Marantz...

Is 40hz correct after set up with Audyssey?

After setting up my 2.1 system with Audyssey, the final calculations was that it set my speakers to "small" and set the crossover at 40hz. Is 40hz correct? Isn't 80hz usually recommended for the sub? I haven't spent much time listening after set up, but the sub seems a little weak.

Will Audyssey detect 2nd sub with 2 outputs?

I haven't been able to find much specific info regarding the dual sub outputs, only that the manual recommends to keep the second sub at the same levels when doing Audyssey. I don't understand why they would bother putting two sub outputs on the unit if it really isn't any different then...

Will Audyssey detect 2nd sub with 2 outputs?

I have a Marantz SR-6005 with dual sub outputs. As of now I only have one 10'' sub but I plan to get another (maybe) in the future. Will Audyssey be able to set up with the 2nd sub? There is something in the manual that indicates to me that it might, but I was told by someone on here a while...

Set 2.1 system with Marantz SR7005

I was going to suggest... follow the instructions in your manual for set up using Audyssey. You can set up for 2.1 by skipping unused channels. It will measure your room acoustics and give you the best possible (supposedly) adjustments. You can also manually fine adjust it later if you like...

Really been wanting to upgrade my CD Changer to a good single play

What "most folks do" is usually the exact opposite of what the true connoisseur of A/V equipment and music should do. This applies to most other fields of interest as well. Except for the higher end units put out by the better manufacturers, I've found that most of the average run of the mill...

Really been wanting to upgrade my CD Changer to a good single play

While you may not hear a difference in SQ, don't entirely count out that possibility. One thing you will get is better performance. I've owned several carousel type players in the past and all of them developed issues after a while. Certain discs would skip or not play at all in certain slots...

Please help with questions about FLAC/MP3.

Hello Dr. Carter... How was your trip back to jolly ole' England? Did you ever connect with the gentleman who found all that rare Hi-Fi gear? I agree with that, although I don't think MP3 is all that great for ANY music myself. I wouldn't conceive of using it for classical, except maybe for...

Please help with questions about FLAC/MP3.

Yes, my CPU is rather old by today's standards, and probably has a sub-par sound card, DVD burner, etc. I downloaded those MP3's I mentioned straight from Amazon to Windows Media Player, then burned them to CD from there. I will work on getting a new CPU in the future, and hopefully will start...

Please help with questions about FLAC/MP3.

Linn Records is one company that offers downloadable FLAC's, which they call "Studio Master Quality". http://www.linnrecords.com/recording-mozart-symphonies-29--31--paris---32--35--haffner----36--linz-.aspxBut this is mostly a specialized audiophile classical label. If you mean Ipods and things...

Please help with questions about FLAC/MP3.

OK, I'm an old purist who dislikes the idea of downloading music or having my entire A/V or literary life stuck in cyberspace somewhere, but after much resisting I recently broke down and downloaded some songs I've been itching to hear for awhile. These were mostly "one hit wonders" or stuff not...

Sixties equipment found - help me!

This is all very fascinating, like something out of a novel or something! I can understand you wanting to sell the gear as is, because it may take a lot of work to get some of it up and running (Probably hasn't been used in years, missing parts, etc.). But if you find the right people to help...

Turntables outsell CD players in the UK

I do, and apparently a host of others do also, judging from the upscale CD player market. Although I don't have the answers for this, It has been my experience that the average Uni-disc player cannot compete with a high quality dedicated CD/SACD player, and most are not as reliable, built as...

Okay...As I Get Closer to a Turntable Indulgence, I Have Some Questions...

Nice to see you again Pearlcorders701, Still looking at that Technics TT Huh? I understand you don't have money falling out of your rear end, and you obviously are not looking to buy accessories that are close to the same price or more than the TT you want, so here's my advice: 1. One...

Some Great Deals On Infinity Primus...

This doesn't surprise me, but not everybody who visits (including myself) is up to date on everything, or are aware of the Audioholics store or what they may carry. And like you, I'm just trying to spread the good musical word. :) It looks to me that the threshold on speaker prices keeps...

Some Great Deals On Infinity Primus...

There are some great deals on the Infinity Primus series at Crutchfield. * A pair of P152 Bookshelves is on sale for $150! This is approaching the price range of the Behringer 2030P's, and it may be a marginally better speaker to boot, depending on your tastes. * A Pair of P252 Towers can be...

For Vintage Audio and Vinyl enthusiasts only!

The Shure M78S is what I was looking at myself. Also, it's 78rpm replacement stylus can be used with their conventional stereo cartridges, so if you already have a current model Shure, you need only to buy the 78rpm Stylus at $35. But for a mere $10 more, you might as well get the whole...

For Vintage Audio and Vinyl enthusiasts only!

I can understand having to install your own arm/cartridge but expecting the customer to carve out their own wooden base is going a bit to far in my opinion, even for back then. Yes, I noticed the Quad 22 card, but I wasn't sure if it was just there as a museum curiosity or if you were actually...
