what speaker should I get?
The Monitor Audio Silver RS6 are great for loud music, the bass is punchy and the treble is amazing. also the Polk Audio TSi500 are great. BTW, What kind of music do you listen?

HELP needed please - choosing a receiver
I do agree with knucklehead, the harman/kardon is a great brand..possibly the best ones on 2 channel stereo. The HK 3480 has a high performance and the sound is perfect for any 2 channel stereo lover.

Has anyone ever heard of a Proton SA-100 Subwoofer Amp?
Not too much really, i just had a look at proton brand once and it seemed like a solid state amplifier, the sound was stunning.

If the voltage and specs are the same, it can work perfectly with your Receiver. Just try it before using it as said before.

What HDMI to get?
High Speed or category 2 cables reach the highest speed on bandwidth on HDMI, and they handle 1080p signals very well.

Samsung plasma
The Samsung 560 has Awesome picture on both standard and HiDef TV, the hd pictures are amazing. I've been using it for a year and im happy so far.

It also has less features like: It doesnt have the chip VRS by Anchor Bay ABT2010 and it doesnt makes conversion of DVDs to 24fps

blue ray weird
If the another discs you have are working good, maybe the Bluray disc is bad. Maybe a factory defect on it. Same thing happened to me before.

You can recap the power supply board, or test all the diodes, transistors and resistors.
