    Sound United has been sold....

Hmmm.. o_Oo_O Don't remember that post but below are some of my latest personal observations/experiences/opinions about Yamaha audio products. 1. Yamaha for the most part design and builds their own audio products. 2. Compared to Denon & Marantz, for their largest selling product...

Marantz AV 10 15.4CH AV Processor Bench Test Results!

Somebody called for M Code.. Yamaha is the leader... * Loyal distribution * Quality, reliable product * Strong market position * Unique, R&D team The other major player in brand competition is Harman using various off-spins brands through their Arcam(UK) purchase, all built by the OE...

Purchased an old Marantz amp with issues

The Marantz 1060 integrated amplifier was big seller, far exceeding Marantz's expectations. As posted previously, pre-amp and power sections are lifted from the 2230. The 1060 was released in 1973, making it >50 years old, I recall it was the best selling Marantz amplifiers of all-time...

    Marantz Stereo 70s

More loudspeakers are blown with low powered amplifiers, than high powered amplifiers. Usually because the user has alot EQ boost, using high THD sources or simply trying to play the system @ a higher volume level driving the amplifiers into clipping.. Just my $0.02.. ;)

    Marantz Stereo 70s

I do agree, this feature is misunderstood by many and can/will change due to room size, speaker sensitivity, any EQ/DSP settings. One more thing to keep in mind about the dB volume indication. If any of the channel trims are set to positive + dB, that amount will be decreased from the maximum...

    Marantz Stereo 70s

I can't comment for other brands but for the Harman/Arcam/JBL AVRs and processors the volume dB scale does have a purpose.... Assuming all the channel trim controls are set @ 0, when the volume dB indicator shows 0dB, it means that when inputting a signal of 1V RMS. If the unit has built-in...

    Fosi and Kickstarter, again?

A clarification from me.. Beside the field failures.... Another economic reason I moved away from Fosi products was.. In my custom AV install biz, our customers rank system and product reliability the highest, and when there is a failure the cost burden of sending 1 of our techs out to...

    Fosi and Kickstarter, again?

In our AV Install biz, originally we used some Fosi amplifiers mainly for Zone II or ceiling speakers. Next we had couple of field failures so now we steer away from their products.. Note that Fosi was very good about replacing the defective products, but we have had better, long-term...

Favorite classic Home Theater Receiver of all time

My favorite AVR of all time is my Harman/Kardon AVR7550HD... It has great power into 4 Ohms, analog/digitizer bass manager, full process Logic 7, and incredible Room EQ software developed by HK's internal R&D team... Still kicking after 14 years as the last HK AVR.. Just my $0.02... ;)

Any long term experience with Monoprice amps?

Note that ATI builds very high quality products, and they also have excellent tech support. IMHO... Far superior to any audio amplifier product built/sourced from off-shore. Yes, certain key output stage modules are out-sourced but their end process for quality and reliability testing is...

    FTC Amplifier Rule

I recall the majority of the brands/models that failed the original FTC(73) power output disclosure statue were the high powered receivers and amplifiers... In the late 70s when the market in the categories of stereo receivers and power amplifiers... Many brands and their products that had...

    FTC Amplifier Rule

The 1st statues for power output disclosures by the Federal Trade Commission goes back 50 years to 1973. Though certain test conditions have been revised for various reasons, such as the amplifiers being multi-channel and the relaxing of the pre-conditioning tests. However the FTC has no...

Is the AVR shortage easing up?

Hmmm.. Good question, about time for some updates... I will check my sources.. Just my $0.02.... ;)

Is the AVR shortage easing up?

Yamaha was slow in restarting their AVR production lines in Malaysia. Several reasons, worker vacations, Covid alert, internal component shortage but now they are starting to catch up.. Factory stock levels are reasonable for the lower range AVRs, the mid range and higher range AVRs were the...

HK 3490 or Marantz SR-7008 or Marantz 2240 for 2 ch?

Yup... Also did the 3390.. :) I recall the amplifiers of the 3390 and 3490 were the same as the 3390 did well no need to revise. Major feature upgrades of the 3490 were video composite switching, digital inputs and iPod connectivity. As U mentioned maybe the power supply was upgraded, I...
