    Mark Schifter Arrested Again

I figured for sure there'd be an update here since sentencing was today. :(

Two can play that game Apple!

And Apple stole the iPhone design from LG. I guess what's good for the goose isn't good for the gander.

    Real Actors read Yelp Reviews

The earlier ones seemed funnier than the later ones. The 2nd one had me pretty much in tears.

    Mark Schifter Arrested Again

Not sure how I missed this... Any update on the details of the plea agreement?

Sending audio to headphone amp from Denon receiver

Use one of the fixed volume analog outputs from your receiver. It looks like VCR & DVR are your best options and perhaps Zone 2 or 3.

    CDs Dead In 2012?

FWIW, they can be ripped to high res PCM with a properly equipped PS3.

What are you buying this season?!?! (The gift, self-gift & holiday thread)

I spent a lot more than that today. On the expensive side I had the bright idea to order a set of Westone 4 IEMs. On the cheap side I bought a few $5 Blu-Rays from Walmart and a few other discounted Blu-Rays from Amazon. I also apparently need to stay away from those Lightning Deals. That's...

What are you buying this season?!?! (The gift, self-gift & holiday thread)

You really need to stay away from those Amazon lightning deals. :p

    CDs Dead In 2012?

No, it's DSD Because you're trying to interpret an encoded compressed audio stream as if it were normal PCM audio. You could always get a receiver with HDMI and a HDMI equipped universal player and then have proper bass management for DVD-A & SACD.

    CDs Dead In 2012?

Well, I would say some of the content in the master may have been omitted. That's impossible to say with a blanket statement. If the master has more than 96dB of dynamic range, then no. If it doesn't, then yes it could be. Yes, that is compression, but it's not the same sort of omission. The...

What are you buying this season?!?! (The gift, self-gift & holiday thread)

I bought Bosch CLPK27-120 12-Volt 2-Tool Combo Kit for my Dad since the price finally dropped. I bought myself a set in the early summer and liked them so much I wanted to get him a set.

    CDs Dead In 2012?

No. The 2 pounds are omitted from the bag. Would you say the 8 pounds in the bag are compressed? I understand technology and business. I don't agree with your assessment that CD audio is a rushed to market so-so product. At the time it was released it was superior to every other audio format...

What are you buying this season?!?! (The gift, self-gift & holiday thread)

I guess I should say I've got a burning desire to buy myself a really nice pair of headphones also. HiFiMAN HE-500 seem to be leading the pack of likely candidates. I'm just waiting to see if there are any deals on them today or tomorrow. For others I've got ideas on a list, but I haven't...

    CDs Dead In 2012?

You've heard of oversampling before right? What on earth are you talking about? A DAC doesn't do any interpretation of the data stream. It simply converts it to an analog signal and pushes it through a low pass filter to eliminated artifacts and return the signal to a smooth sinusoidal signal...

    CDs Dead In 2012?

The CD isn't going anywhere, but the record labels would like it to go away. They want to sell you a lossy digital file that you can't resell. Actually scratch that... They don't even want to sell you a digital file. They want to rent you a digital file that you pay to play every time you...

Shouldn't you kick it off? I plan to buy a few $5 Blu-Rays from Walmart tomorrow.

I guess Hypicane Irene didn't get the memo. Seems like the storm didn't exactly deliver what the media promised.

    Zaph benches the Behringer 2031p

Arguments against using bookshelf speakers in a large room for HT? The facts there are easy. A single 6.5" driver (or whatever midwoofer you're using in a typical bookshelf speaker) can't play the required 105dB at 80Hz cleanly when you're sitting more than several feet away in a large room...

    Inheritance Lost to Doomsday Church

So, there's documented evidence of this telephone effect in the Bible then? It seems like it would be pretty easy to compare the very old copies of the Bible and see if your theory is correct or not.
