Need help with a multichannel audio recorder

Thanks for the reply - I bought two TASCAM X48MKII recorders and am working on synchronizing them. That gives me 24 bit A/D's at 96 kHz for all 96 channels. Sorry if the question was out of scope for the forum.

Is Emotiva losing some of it's luster?

I can only add that I'm really sick and tired of my UMC-1 and all its bugs and quirks. Sometimes i wonder why I just don't rip the thing out and ditch it. There's NO excuse for such a poor user interface.

Need help with a multichannel audio recorder

I need to buy a 96-channel audio recorder, something to go between 96 1/4" analog plugs (inpout) and 96 synchronous .wav files. I found the Klark Teknik DN 9696 96-channel audio recorder, but that requires an AE550 optical data input, and I can only find rackmount boxes with 8 analog input...

Tip of the Day: Corner Loading a Sub

I had a hard time with my sub (SVS SB13) in the corner. I did get some enhanced levels near 20-25 Hz, but ended up with pernicious 20 dB+ nulls near 81 and 110 Hz. I moved the sub around a lot, finally settling on a location between my left front and center speaker and maybe 8" away from the...

    Measurements For Everyone

In what way does this microphone outperform the Radio Shack SL meter when used with REW? I kinow the RS SL meter is only good to 3500 Hz, but how much calibration can be done above that frequency? (I'm wondering if there's a reason to upgrade my SL meter to this mike. Would I also need to...

Emotiva UMC1 users, need your advice on whether to upgrade my Yammy AVR

I didn't get an upgrade card when I bought mine for $499. Buyer needs to double-check whether that's part of the closeout deal.

Emotiva UMC1 users, need your advice on whether to upgrade my Yammy AVR

I have a UMC-1. IMHO, you're headed for a pile of quirks, bugs and 'undocumented features' which, to me, made ownership rather unsatisfying. Remember, they won't take it back if you don't like it, and that's for a reason. As to sound quality, I believe the amps and speakers lartgely determine...

EMO UMC-1 popping in right surround speaker

I've now verified that popping does not occur with Dolby Volume turned off - can't thank you enough for this tip. I'll work on ensuring all speaker trims are <0, turn off EmoQ and see if I can get it into a state that will support DV, but if i have to live without it, so be it. I set up my sub...

EMO UMC-1 popping in right surround speaker

Is it possible Emotiva customer support doesn't know anything about this issue???? They are focusing on my HDMI cable as the source of the problem!! And thanks, matalli; much appreciated. Does this mean that EmoQ and Dolby Volume are essentially useless on the UMC-1?

EMO UMC-1 popping in right surround speaker

Guys, I need some help - my right surround speaker is popping when playing in certain configurations. Here's the system: OPPO BDP93, HDMI to Emo UMC-1, RCA to EMO XPA-5. I get chirping (only) in the right surround speaker when playing 2 chan. (Blu-ray or DVD) source music and mapping it to...

    Sub equalization: upgrading from REW?

I have a Behringer BFD and use REW to program its' parametric EQ. The resulting FR curve looks 'reasonably' flat, but I wonder how much the field has advanced, whether it makes sense to try to upgrade from REW and, for instance, try to get a larger equalized area (compared to the single point...

    Emotiva XMC-1 Processor Preview

I bought a UMC-1 this past summer and sadly have to report it is not a bug-free processor. I've been struggling with the manual and Emotiva to get it set up and have had to do a complete reboot twice already when it ended up in an 'undocumented state. This is probably not the place for a UMC-1...

    Live vs. dead room

Why is it that performing musicians typically want a 'live' room to perform in, and audiophiles strive for a 'dead' room and go to all sorts of trouble to minimize wall reflections?
  14. J

    Imaging

I guess that brings back the original question: do I want a dead room or a live room for optimal imaging?

    Imaging

Thanks guys, your help is much appreciated. I AM making progress, but whether I'll get to keep the room in the 'optimal imaging' configuration is up for family debate. :) Getting the speakers away from the walls and putting a very heavy curtain behind them seems to help. One thing I could...

    Monitors or Full Size Spekers

I have a set of two full-sized speakers (B&W802D) and a sub (SVS SB13) and I find that for most music, I prefer not to turn the sub on. I find that (with the type of music I tend to listen to), there's just not that much content below the speaker lower cutoff (35Hz), and the sub just seems to...

    Imaging

Phew - this went up over my head somewhere... Are you guys saying that a 24 bit source would image better than a 16 bit source, but the difference is infinitesimal???

    Imaging

To me, the crux of the matter is that I don't know what's possible, what to shoot for and what to expect when I get it 'right'. It feels like a kind of a 'blind man's bluff' tweaking my setup here and there without really knowing what to look for or when I got it right. And don't get me...

    Re-capping older amplifiers

Well, caps on the ML 33x series do leak. I can't imagine this helps out their performance. Rengy651, what are the telltale signs that a ML 33x amp needs recapping? (Besides evidence of electrolytic fluid leakage?)

    Imaging

I wonder if the fact the B&W 800 series is ported detracts from its' imaging ability. I'm thinking that a sealed speaker would have a simpler impulse response which 'might' be desirable from an imaging perspective.
