    TEKTON,S double impact anybody?

I wouldn't put too much stock in people who put numbers over actual listening.... I have the Tekton Lore-S and a pair of MOABs on the way. The Lore-S are fantastic, very revealing and detailed with incredible imaging. I had been wanting a pair of DIs for a few years now, but decided to go...

Emotiva UMC-200 Preamp / Processor Review

From the OP "I found this to still be the case with the UMC-200. During manual calibration, the subwoofer level appeared to be set about 6-8 dB too hot when using the internal tone generator and my trusty analog SPL meter." I believe I have figured this out. I recently switched from a pair...

Velodyne ULD 15 Series II vs SVS CS-Ultras

I have had some more time to get the levels (more or less) right and A/B test. The SVS' are really shining. The perceived lack of the upper bass in the SVS' isn't what I thought it originally was, they are really sounding great. I am playing a bit with the Emotiva's built in PEQ, and I raised...

Velodyne ULD 15 Series II vs SVS CS-Ultras

I just came home with a balanced XLR cable and WOW what a difference. The static/hum problem is completely gone and they sound much better. I don't know if there was a problem with the 1/4" input or the RCA to 1/4" adapter, but I'll have completely reassess.

Velodyne ULD 15 Series II vs SVS CS-Ultras

The SVS's are growing on me, I really need some more A/B testing. They are both fantastic, especially when in pairs. I am comparing 2 very nice sets of subs, that most people would be thrilled to have. I really can't go wrong, whichever set I decide to keep. The ULDs may be old, but they are...

Velodyne ULD 15 Series II vs SVS CS-Ultras

I picked up the SVS' today, and have been listening to them all afternoon. ShadyJ, you were right, the SVS' have better, really low bass (not to say the ULDs don't have great low bass), the ULDs are better over the rest of the bass range. I will be taking more time, probably a few weeks to make...

Velodyne ULD 15 Series II vs SVS CS-Ultras

I don't really have any budget. I love the Velos, and wasn't really looking to replace then, but I can make money in this deal. I could sell my Velodynes for probably about $1000, especially with the spare 3rd amp I have for them, and they have both been recently refoamed. The SVS' with amp are...

Velodyne ULD 15 Series II vs SVS CS-Ultras

I love my Velodyne subs, but I ran across a deal on a pair of SVS CS-Ultras with original 500 wpc amp. These review awesome, anyone have a thought on if this would be an upgrade or not? They would cost me less than I could sell the Velodynes for. The Velodynes are 15 inch sealed, with 400 watt...

    Digital-to-Analog Converters (DACs) Comparison

Schiit has a wide range of some very nice DACs, regardless of how much you want to spend. On a tangent; Being an Audiophile does not mean you are someone who can afford a system that costs well into the 5 figures (I used to think it did). It means you have the passion for better sound than...

    Dedicated Amp for Center Channel

Marantz MA-500 great monoblock amp. I used to use one for my center channel. 125 watt @ 8 Ohm, 180 @ 4 ohm. They go for around $100 used on ebay

    Stereo receiver and speaker compatability

80 watts is relatively high for "minimum recommended". Speakers generally don't do as well as they could at or near their minimum. 100 watts, is not significantly higher than 80 watts. Anecdotally, my Mirage speakers are inefficient, they have a recommended range of 100-300 watts. They do not...

    Stereo receiver and speaker compatability

100 should be alright, but if the speaker asks for at least 80, there is a reason for that. 150 or more would probably be better.

Newb Question about having enough power to drive speakers

That does seem a bit underpowered. In theory, 30 watts will get your 88 dB speaks a little over 100 dB @ 1 meter in front of each speaker. But also, bass needs power, and 30 isn't a lot, especially for somewhat inefficient spks. My speakers are 83 dB @ 1 watt/1 meter, but they are bipolar, so...

Best $2000 pre amp / dac

Schiit makes some very good DACS and Preamps. I picked up a Modi Multibit DAC and Freya Tube/JFET/passive preamp, and it is very nice.

Good used DAC & 2 Chan Preamp for good price.

Also, an anechoic frequency response graph of a bipolar speaker isn't a particularly accurate representation of the speaker (sorry Boredsys.. if that is over your head). I'll take my own personal experience with them as well as this Conclusion from the same article as much more meaningful: "...
