How loud does it need to be? If it doesn't need to be loud, you don't need more power. If you do, you'll need a significant increase in output power or it won't make much difference.

Does this have a removable power cord? If so, make sure it's plugged in fully. Also, make sure the outlet's wiring is intact- I have seen outlet connections fail and cause all kinds of odd behavior.
