    Post Your Ride!

In my experience as a professional motorcycle drag racer, I can't imagine that thing being rideable on the street. And even if it was, 250 of that horsepower is simply wasted. Awesome excess! I have a 140hp street bike, and I rarely ever open the throttle past 1/3. There's no point. Have...

$9800 for a pair of cables

For anyone with half a brain, we can see that a pair of $7000 speakers and $3000 worth of acoustical treatment would make a really nice improvement in most of our sound systems. Whether or not the cables make any difference, it certainly wouldn't be $10000 worth.

    audio problem

Do you have cable TV? If so, you have a ground loop. You need one of these: VRD-1FF Cable TV Ground Loop Isolator Analog, Digital and Cable Modem Compatible (Supercedes the Model VR-1FF) http://www.jensen-transformers.com/

    Behringer Feedback Destroyer

Your impression is correct, (except that 1/4" instrument plugs are not balanced) but there is also a balanced XLR. If you go to a pro audio store, they have cables that have either a male or female XLR connector mated to a male RCA on the other end. I used the Hosa brand, but any quality cable...

to amp or not to amp......

The next step up would be something like the Outlaw 950. They're getting pretty cheap right now, ($700) and would be noticeably quieter than any receiver under $1500.

Speakers for really close up listening???

I would look at a set of near field monitors at a pro sound store. Some brands to audition would be Genelec and Mackie. Also the Behringer "Truth" series are an amazing choice for the money.

to amp or not to amp......

A prepro and seperate amp replaces your receiver. Basically, it seperates out the preamp functions from the amplifier functions. With a receiver both functions are in the same box. The advantages are mostly in keeping the power supplies seperate. The amps tend to be more robust, and the...

    In room SPL??

With the mic in the listening position and me in the next room with the door closed watching the RTA, 120db was no problem. It's kind of like taking your car out one time to see what it will do, but there's really not much point in the exercise as it's dangerous.

where do all these wires go?

If your preamp/receiver does not have component video switching, you'll need an external switching device. Do you already have a reciever? What kind?

to amp or not to amp......

If you're going to go with more power and external amps, I would look at seperates... that is a seperate pre amp sending the signal to the amps instead of a receiver. That being said, whether or not 100w, 170w, or more is needed to fill your room is more closely based on how well your...

    Speaker Wear and Tear

I'm an old guy that's been in sound for many years, and I have several speakers that are probably older than you that still work fine. If not abused, many drivers can last for decades. Foam surrounds can be prone to dry rot, but even then only after 10-15 years or more. Enjoy your speakers...

Receiver as pre-amp for tube integrated amp?

Sorry for being unclear. I meant integrating a preamp and the other external amps as well. Many preamps have a 2 channel direct mode as well, which would help quite a bit for a setup like yours. It would be more expensive, obviously, but it might be worth it in the long run.

    Amps

If your receiver is sufficiently powerful enough to operate your speakers in your room to a desired sound level, then you do not need an amp. However, some people require different things out of thier setups. Some need more power, some need amps specialized for different speakers, some like...

short speaker cables or short component cable

Long speaker runs are to be avoided when possible. Since the length of the cable affects resistance, you can offset the longer runs by using a larger diameter cable. Interconnects can be more prone to picking up EMI/RFI, but other than that, the losses are far smaller with line levels than...

I don't mean this as a spelling flame, because they suck. But if you're going to write letters to companies and expect them to take you seriously, please use a spell checker.
