Advice on 2.1 system for apartment and computer use in (Australia, $2k, Apartment)

Is the SB12-NSD or the SB1000 the recommended model? It's not clear cut to me which is best.

Advice on 2.1 system for apartment and computer use in (Australia, $2k, Apartment)

Got a question about practicalities. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment and want a speaker system I can use while playing computer games (50%), watching tv/movies (20%), listening to music (predominately rock, metal and punk) (20%) and using my home gym (10%). Budget is about $2k Australian, though...

Does a piece of GEAR like this exist??

Couldn't you just get a PC, the music/video player of your choice - like winamp - queue up as many videos as you want in a playlist then turn on shuffle? Should do exactly what you want - winamps queue next song function will allow you to tee up a bunch of songs jukebox style no problem.

    htpc questions......

320kbps mp3s will be perfect quality, no problem. No other program will offer better quality. One thing to be careful of with sound cards is almost none of them support surround sound digital formats, but some do. Buying one of those and using the optical out will give you multichannel sound...

Thoughts on internet based speaker companies.

A flame war is an ongoing conflict fought by these http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/ warriors on message boards, usenet and other communities through the internet. The first recorded flamewars are from 1978.

    Hearing Loss??????

If you're an older guy its fairly routine that you won;t be able to hear the top parts of the frequency range. High pitched noises from electronics are a particular culprit - I've been in quite few labs when the younger set could ear and olliscope or something whining while the professors could...

    Need a sub..

Based on previous experince with laptop headphone outs, it is almost certainly the laptop. Ignore the inferior speaker crowd. The problem with lots of laptop headphone outs is that despite the very low cost of properly constructed electronics they've gone for the very very low cost of badly...

    Is an Ipod good enough?

You won;t be able to ABX the difference between the CD and 320 kbps mp3s unless you use specially constructed test samples or are some sort of audio super sayan. In which case, start a TV series. For us norms you can probably ratchet down to 192kbs VBR with a decent encoder (and by decent, I...

    Custom Power Cord Question

This is the case. You can say science has proven X to be false (as is the case with, say, audible difference in power cords ;)), but not the reverse. To see that in action, consider newtons laws vs Einsteins. Newtons equations were 'proved' to be true, and it required significantly more...

    SVS sub compensation chart

If you have a bit of patience you could probably make a test tone CD for your desired frequencies ... or just google it Someone has done it for you, LFE test tones at 1 HZ intervals. http://www.realtraps.com/test-cd.htm

    Custom Power Cord Question

Science isn't a belief system. As a result of application of the scientific method you may come to hold certain facts as true, but that is not a property of the scientific method. Science holds nothing to be true, merely not to have been proved false yet. By contrast a belief system is a...

FhG vs LAME 3.97 [My comparisons with Wav, 320-CBR, & 112-CBR] [Plus I Need Help]

If its for computer use, and you care, use FLAC. it's a lossless compression, works great, winamp plugin for it, no reason to use anything else. The only reason I advocate this is that it makes your audio library smaller and more convient for transcoding to portable devices. Otherwise -V 0 or -V...

No PS3 price cut plans - Sony

I think they know that now they've won the High def war they can sit back and wait - the PS3 will ship units because its a blue ray player with all the mod cons and is also a gaming console. is there much cheaper in the way of blue ray?

Your most anticipated games for E3 2008

Actually, I'm pretty much saying that they should stop making zelda games because they one thing universally in common: They suck. Well, at least recently. Actually its not even like they suck. Its more like they are the same game with slightly pretty graphics. And I played that the last time...

Your most anticipated games for E3 2008

It's especially funny when you considered that lego batman is a 'sequel' in the sense that it is a rehash of the lego starwars games, so that leaves what. 3? out of 20? 15%? Nice work guys.
