Video Review: SVS Ultra Series Speakers

I saw this on a review about the Bristol show this year and thought I'd share. Apparently SVS was showing the Ultra Bookshelves in a walnut veneer over there. Nice looking finish, hopefully we'll get to see it here in the states.

Video Review: SVS Ultra Series Speakers

Great review Marshall. In regards to the center vs. bookshelf, did you notice any additional output or off axis capabilities, or was it mainly a difference in the lower midbass?

I thought that was weird. He turned down the treble, and then complained that the top end was a bit flat.

$2,000-3,000 Tower speaker comparison: Need help picking the contenders

I find this an interesting argument. I often hear "imaging" in studio recorded music, and I know it is artificially created (the knob-twiddling), but I felt the end product was what was designed by the artist and producer. I *personally* feel it is similar to watching a movie. For example if...

THIEL Aquired By Private Equity Firm

It does if that means the price for the goods has dropped below the average variable costs to produce them. I don't think that was the reason with Thiel though. They have several very good products in their stable currently. The best path forward that I see for Thiel is the PE firm...

Power Sound Audio XV-15 Subwoofer Review

A complicating factor is that the ports on the Outlaw are on the same surface as the driver. On the PSA, the driver is downfiring and the port is on the back, so Ricci would have to choose one or the other. In the end, it probably doesn't make too much of a difference though.

    Hmmm...these look kinda familiar

That is one of the saddest websites I've seen in awhile. And, yeah, it looks like the had a strong British "inspiration" when they were designing those.

Closer to the Springs, but close enough. At least for the next couple of months. Then back to the left coast.

Rythmik FV15HP vs. Power Sound XV15

I agree with Jeff. I'm a big fan of dual subs when it is possible. Dual LFM's will give you solid output and extension, the ability to smooth the FR across multiple seats, and doesn't seem to require you meeting some guy in a back alley a hundred miles away.

    Monoprice New Sub $103

I am being honest. Sure, I'd like to see reviews of equipment I am personally interested in, but that was not the thrust of my argument. Also, I am very aware of the value of money and how hard it can be to save up. When I started working I was paid $3.25/hr, for manual labor, and worked 100+...

    Monoprice New Sub $103

My last thought is, sure, more $100 subs get sold than $1,000 subs do. But, how many of those $100 sub buyers actually research the item beyond a blurb? Some do, yes, but all of them? I'd venture to guess many don't go to forums, read technical reviews, or agonize much over a sub in this...

    Monoprice New Sub $103

I look at it from a different perspective. If I am looking at spending $x,xxx I am very curious about the specifics. I want to see charts, see the components, and have some way to objectively compare items. At $103, I am more interested in: Does it work, what kind of connections does it...

$2,000-3,000 Tower speaker comparison: Need help picking the contenders

The 802D's aren't big enough. I'm 6'5", 250lb, and I don't think they would completely hold my body. Which would be a concern, as my wife would surely kill me for spending $15k on a pair of speakers and the only way I could enjoy them was if I were buried in them. *And no, cremation doesn't...

    SVS SB13-Ultra Owners Impressions

SVS used to offer a two driver version of their sub lines that also had more powerful amps. The basic model numbers were frequently the same, but with the "/2" added to the end. Here is a picture of the old PB12 Plus/2 Even further back, they had the "B4" line with, you guessed it, 4...

Disney buys Lucasfilm and promises neverending Star Wars films

I don't know if anyone else caught this, but George Lucas (sole owner) sold Lucasfilm to Disney for $4.1b USD. Not a bad chunk of change. Disney plans to release episode VII in the series in 2015, and then another film in the series every 2-3 years. Here's a link to an article about it...

    SVS Ultra Speakers Loudspeakers

This conversation seems to have gone pretty far afield. Scattershot, you may get better info on all those other speakers by starting another thread. (Please don't take any offense, I'm just noticing this is a thread about the new SVS Ultra speakers, and the last several posts have been about...
