    Trying to research Amplifiers

Well I don't really. I'm just curious as to how much they cost. My Onk 705 can push them well, but I'm looking toward future upgrades.

    Trying to research Amplifiers

I'm having a heck of a time finding brands of HT amplifiers. Everytime I search I just pull up car audio stuff. And when I look on sites like this, I just get same names Emotiva, ect.... What I'm looking for is a 3 or 2 channel amp that outputs 150-200wpc. I'll be driving 6ohm eD towers...

    spending my stimulus package $1200

If you haven't already check out Elemtal Design. You can get a decent 5.1 package w/ a nice sub (A3-300) for ~ $1000.

anyone with a onkyo 805 HELP!!

I'd like to thread jack an ask. Would it be better to get a 2 or 3 channel amp w/ optimal power rating, or get a 5 channels amp, w/ lower per channel rating, and bi-amp the mains.

    Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver Overview

I may be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure the device w/ the best scaler will ultimately determine the resolution/pic quality. So even if it was 480i or 480p the tv pic will be the same

is two HDMI input enough for anyone?

I think you exactly right. I know in your situation it's not possible, but in my case I just don't see the point of runnnig my cable box hdmi through the receiver. I just can't see watching Judge Judy in 7.1 :D. I'd rather just through an optical cable on in it on the rare occasions I do want...

    Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver Overview

To be honest if you have a 720p or 1080p tv it'll upscale the picture to it's native resolution, so it really won't matter.

    Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver Overview

Ok so after doing a little more digging it seems that it was DTS-MA that the 663 can't matrix into 7.1

    Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver Overview

Yeah, well from what I've been seeing the popping issue is being solved with a firmware update and shouldn't be a problem on new models. Lip synching is a minor annoyance and readily fixable on top of the fact it is hit or miss. Heat is nothing a simple fan can't fix. However from what I...

    Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver Overview

Yeah I'm having a similar dilema. I'm back and forth between 663 and Onkyo 705. It's a battle between price/reliablity against functionality/overall proformance.

    20hz w/ 180W that sound right?

So that's where the 180W comes in? Well I don't really have it in my wallet to get anything that expensive. I'm trying to stay under $300 and since my speakers don't cost much more than $400 total; it doesn't really make sence to spend even that much. BTW the sub I'm talking about is the Sony...

    20hz w/ 180W that sound right?

I'm looking at a budget sub that is supposed to go 20-200Hz but at 180W am I going to get any force behind that low bass?

A 5th Bookshelf or Center channel

Thanks for the input. I'd also like to add a spin on this.... I may upgrade my fronts one day and go to 7.1. I was initially thinking of just replacing the front L/R w/ monitors. If i'm going w/ 5 bookshelves I would have to replace L/C/R right? If I got a decent center now I could be saving...

A 5th Bookshelf or Center channel

So I was thinking of setting up a budget 5.1 system. The Sony bookshelfs I'm getting are decent for the size and price. Shopping around I've noticed bookshelf's are for the most part, cheaper than center channels. Would I loose sq by using 5 identical speakers, instead of getting a...

    1080p issues-receiver related

How do you know it's the receiver. Try connected the dvd directly to the tv, first w/ the cable already connected to it, and then w/ the monster. If you don't get a flinker then you definately know it's the receiver

Yamaha RXV663, Sony BluRay, Sony Bravia synching

How do you control your ps3 with a IR remote?

    PS3 - Which one?

You got that backwards. The 60GB is hardware backward compatible, while the 80GB has a software emilator for PS2. The 40GB doesn't even play PS2 games

Oppo next to create a Blu-ray player!

I think I rather have my receiver do this and save an extra $50-$100 :p

AVRs that support HDMI Audio Multichannel PCM (MPCM) and/or HBR Bitstream Decoders

Onkyo does have the 705 and 805 to fall back on. For the price, not too many other recievers can compete feature-wise.

    Onkyo 604 ----- 805????

Looking at the op, really I don't think it matters what upscaling chip he has, since he's going to use hdmi to connect his cable box and not component. Besides most 1080p hdtv's can deinterlace pretty well on their own anyway.
