Marantz SR6013 Vs Yamaha RX-A1080 AVENTAGE

I can say with my experience with the sr6013, it's a great unit. Having used Yamaha amps and Marantz, I prefer Marantz...I don't much like Denon products that I've had in the past. As for 5.1.2, it works quite well. I've got a pair of JBL N24 (lower end) mounted to the tops of my custom JBL main...

Seeking advice on purchasing cables for new system

When it comes to speaker wire, twisted (BJC) is always better than straight parallel wire. Twisted wire rejects magnetic fields emitted by AC cords from all the electronics. And for anyone liking diy, building twisted speaker cable is both cheap and easy. Only needing a variable speed, reversing...

    Rectangular room and system orientation.

Yep, the system should always run long ways, if possible. And not having the sofa, chairs up against a back wall is better yet.

    Speakers Placement Help

On wall or in-wall surround speakers should be placed according to the distance from the center seat to those walls. I set up my on-wall speakers on a 15* angle above my seated ear level. With the 15* angle hitting the point between the tweeter and midrange. And then your ATMOS speakers...

    The SEPARATES vs. AVR Thread

The room I'm using is more defined with physical boundaries than the previous room was. Parquet flooring instead of tile, with the same thick multi layered area rugs. Plus multiple floor and ceiling elevations in the ground floor with the LR being 2 & 3 steps higher than the areas around it. The...

    The SEPARATES vs. AVR Thread

HK QC most certainly dropped after Sidney passed on. And there was a huge difference between the 2004 AVR 635 and the AVR 3600 as far as SQ goes. And the autoEQ in the 635 was superior to the EQ in the 3600. But no matter what room correction flavor one uses (I've used HK, Dirac 2 ch & 7 ch)...

    Great Room Speaker Setup Question...Help

Yeah, as I mentioned, screen over FP is really a big NO, NO. lol As mentioned, if the speakers are too far from the screen, the sound will be disjointed from the image. If you do use L/R speakers and they're right next to the screen, you'll not really need a center. Or if you use a quality sound...

    Great Room Speaker Setup Question...Help

There is really no way to make it work, satisfactory. The only way to be sitting symmetrical to the system is to place the screen above the fireplace and a speaker to each side. And that's a poor option, at best, screen way too high. For a temp solution, maybe place the screen across the corner...

    JBL L86

No, I did get your point. But a person has to put aside any bias against a technology they have no direct knowledge and use of. A person either gives it a shot or not. Some people like ribbon tweeters, having personal experiences auditioning ribbons numerous times, I can positively say I don't...

"If it works at all" It's been working perfectly for 14 years....and during those years I've turned down at least 6 offers to sell this pair of CCN speakers.....and others asking me to duplicate them. I don't sell or reproduce for 2, 3 reasons. As time goes, drivers get harder to find and if I...

    JBL L86

Well, now JBL is no longer using the Charged-Coupled Network. The last of which were powered by a bias circuit, instead of a 9v battery. Batteries certainly have come a long way since the late '70's, when I first used battery power tools.

    JBL L86

Elsewhere on Lansing Heritage, Greg explained how Charged-Coupling worked. Every time the current reverses direction the caps turn off as the current crosses the zero volt line. That causes a phase shift. By applying a 9v charge, the audio signal stays above the zero volt line. The other thing...

    JBL L86

No, just one battery to ground. Each capacitor pair is connected to its own 2m ohm resistor, which all resistors then connect to the battery. It does take awhile for the caps to receive a full charge due to the high resistance. I have no idea what Greg later did to have a biased circuit to...

    JBL L86

I think at the time JBL was replacing the DD66000 with the DD67000 is when Greg created a biased circuit to replace the 9v batteries to keep the caps charged. Then I guess about the time JBL PRO came out with the M2 Reference Monitors, which had dsp enabled Crown amps (no passive XOs) Greg/JBL...

    JBL L86

I have not done a blind test...other than at one point in time, I'd had the biased XOs installed for a few years, and I thought it did not sound quite right. So I continued to listen, then it occurred to me to check the 9v batteries. Sure enough, they were dead...cos of 2m ohm resistors to the...

    JBL L86

Swerd, I'll address some of what you say. Most certainly the weak link in XOs are caps, certainly very old cheap ones that may not have been within specs to start with, as you mentioned. All the info I gathered on cap types, bypass caps, Charge Coupled Networks™️ Was from Lansing Heritage...

    JBL L86

The circuit layout would be the same as the original XO,more/less. The original XO of my original L212 was mounted on one 4x7" card. To build the Biased XO required I used three 4x7" cards. One for each driver, due to the fact you're using twice the number of capacitors that are twice the size...

    JBL L86

If you really want a crossover upgrade, and you have enough real estate inside the boxes, do a biased XO. That requires replacing each cap with two caps twice the size.ie..8mf changed to a pair of 16mf wired in series. At the center point of each pair you connect a 2m ohm resistor with the other...

    Turntable sound and wires issue

Imanuel, if two points are true....you're thinking of upgrading to a better TT because/and you think you'll be wanting to use it a good portion of the time. Then as you need to save up anyway, jump up 2-4 levels in TT quality. A great TT is the Marantz TT-15S1, which retails for $1499. It comes...

is moving from 5.1 to 7.1 worth the effort

From my experience, PLIIx is a joke. I use an Oppo 105D as a processor and it uses DTS neo6 for stereo ~ 7.1 conversion. And it is superior. If the input is 5.1, then it stays as such. And in any case, having matched (as in identical) speakers all around is the way to go.
