What New Stuff Have You Bought? If You Care To Share Thead! :)

I picked up a factory refurbished Denon AVR-X2700H. It’s the first newish AVR I purchased in quite a few years! I also purchased an LG 77” B3 OLED for my main video display. First new main display since 2011.

Planning phase for an higher end 2way

I would just do the Helios as an active speaker. They will allow you to play a bit deeper than 80hz, offer very high fidelity, and still will mate well with your sub for the lowest registers. https://meniscusaudio.com/product/the-helios-loudspeaker-kit/

Best subs for strictly music that'll make me feel the drums?

I have found over time that the kick drum each person is after can be slightly different. However what I have found to be critical is that the audio system can produce the important parts of the kick itself well and in balance. The initial mallet strike or attack of the kick is actually quite...

    Car Subwoofer general question

You are correct in your assumption about the amplifier operating at 4 ohms. Getting a woofer to match the proper impedance for max output on the amp will help. One thing I noticed in my time in Car Audio, is that many times the enclosures that came with woofers were not properly matched to the...

Multizone Audio Help needed - Recommendations

Thanks again for all the input. I have ceiling speakers, amplifiers that I want to take advantage of otherwise I probably would have gone the Sonos route from the beginning. I will contact Dayton's tech support and see if there are any other solutions. If I was starting fresh or didn't mind...

SketchUp Free for Speaker Cabinet Design

Diablo blades work great on BB. I am building some "lockers" for our entry way out of 3/4" BB AA grade ply. The 60 tooth blade have worked extremely well with no chip out and super smooth cuts on my table saw. I also have used their plywood/finish blade and that is even better.

Multizone Audio Help needed - Recommendations

Thanks for the detailed response here! I have amplifier channels for each zone I want to control, (Phast PLB-Amp8) that is not an issue. When I looked at the Sonos Port it only showed one output which to me indicated a single zone of control? I thought, "no way am I paying $449 per zone with no...

Multizone Audio Help needed - Recommendations

Hey fellow Audioholics, I have been out of the custom integration game for a bit too long now. I currently have a multizone amplifier that operates independent of my HT systems, and I want to keep it that way. I currently use the Dayton HiFly systems for each of the zones. It is nice having the...

    rockford fosgate 12 inch r1s412 enclosure-please help

What others have stated is generally correct. That woofer is not a good HT candidate for low frequencies. The Xmax is much too low for sub 40hz at higher output levels. Try something like the Dayton RS series, the HF version. Quality motor with much more xmax.

    Built an outdoor subwoofer

It should be a nice beast outside for you. That is under a covered porch, yes? what did you do to help prevent high humidity/temperature swings for the amplifier? Did the Dayton HF pass the sag test for downfiring? The sealed enclosure will help there of course so long as it is sealed up tight.

    Best ULF sub recommendations

You are going to need to find a sub driver with an Fs of 12hz-8hz or so that is capable of venting at that low of a frequency or your driver is likely to melt down all the time. You will also need the space available for said driver(s) system as a vented enclosure or TL system would result in a...

    3-way active dedicated stereo listening

Looking good! Did you try nearfield response measurements at all in room, single speaker? Or even better, try measuring outside? That approach will help determine how much is crossover vs room response.

Could this sub work at 20hz ok?

If you like the TC Sounds, why are you trying something different? I am not sure you are gaining much here unless you are going from a 15” to an 18” (displacement mainly). I know the TC drivers were known to have high and even increasing inductance (due to theirs coil design) as the frequency...

Does anyone do sonotube enclosures anymore?

Haha!! Not quite but I have went through the mental design exercise of what I would do. ;):D

Does anyone do sonotube enclosures anymore?

Me being who I am, I would add bracing, but I also like to overbuild my enclosures to insure I do not have any potential for resonances. That is the point of DIY to a degree, right? Because you can…

    Port conversion

Alex use a 1ft^3 test box as well. Much easier and more accurate than the added mass method. ;)

General question about repairing a sub.

First, I would contact the manufacturer and find out if there are any EQ circuits in the original amplifier. If there are none, then you can find an amplifier with similar rated power and then copy the enclosure design. That would likely be the simplest path. Doing anything beyond that is...

MarkAudio Alpair full range Drivers... Any experience?

What I liked about them was a small footprint and enclosure even when vented, and could get below 60hz for the low end transition to larger subwoofers in a theater application. Not only that they are quite efficient and have a lot of range. Not necessarily the highest fidelity solution per se’...
