I just picked up a set of Yamaha NS1000m speakers for my 2 channel rig. Not new of course but in great condition and they sound fantastic.

I found bi-wiring a complete waste of wire. Bi-amping is a different story and can be beneficial.

My Emo works fine with no issues. I get a kick out of these threads were people scream and yell without even knowing all the facts like if the speakers are even damaged. If you take the amount of units Emo sells and then see how many fail I am sure the failure rate is a fraction of the units...

Like mentioned common sense is the rule. I run 100w speakers with a 300wpc amp and have no issues. Just dont let your drunk friend control the volme...;)

Another place to look for receivers is www.accessories4less.com They have a great selection within your price range. By the way where are you located I have a Fluance center speaker collecting dust and if your close enough maybe you might be interested.

I know there are other receivers that can run 4 ohms but when I had my Marantz receiver I called and talked to a tech there and was told all their receivers would do 4 ohm speakers and so I gave advice on what I knew about. I don't just throw advice out there when I haven't actually owned the...

I agree with the advice so far but another option for you would be Marantz receivers. They will drive 4ohm speakers with no problem.

Have you thought about going vintage? There are some great TT out there in your price range if you just look around some on CL or Ebay..

I am amazed at how people actually fall for this crap. The government doesn't call and tell you their going to come to your house, they just show up at your door. They actually would let the package be delivered to you and then arrest you when you take delivery.

From what I have read you need to contact Marantz about a replacement mic because each mic is calibrated to the AVR it comes with. If you just buy any mic off ebay or somewhere else it will not work correctly.

Did you check your receiver to see what the pre-out voltage is?

No it shouldn't. You need to get an SPL meter and set it so the bass volume is 75-85 db on the meter. Some will say just 75db but I like the bass a little hot so you can see what sounds best to you. I think you can also download an app for a SPL meter on your cell phone but I don't believe they...

Well hopefully he can fix it but if not don't toss it. There is a vintage audio museum in CT that may have a place on a shelf for it. I just gave them an old cassette deck that they may display. I think your friend will find a way to fix it though. Fingers crossed....:)
