    Perlisten R7t Floor-Standing Loudspeaker Review

    Definitely drool-worthy.

This is really cool..unpractical but very cool

I'd say it's more practical than, say, a pipe organ. Although easier to break.

    Home Theater without subs?

Gene has absolutely said as much on a YouTube video with Anthony Grimani and William Poes. "But they look so cool." or something like that. Added by edit: One example starting at about 1:13:00 here (it actually comes up more than once in this video).

Good Subwoofer gone bad, the graph.

Might be interesting to some, and maybe even folks can diagnose the issue, who knows. So, I've moved my home theater setup twice recently, and as it seems to be in a more or less permanent home now, I got serious about dialing everything in. But I was having trouble. One of my trusty SVS...

    SVS PC2000 Cylinder Subwoofer Review

That "cardboard" is more durable than...well...pretty much any other material they make speakers out of! Seriously.

    SVS PC2000 Cylinder Subwoofer Review

If you mean the scratching post issues...Apparently not an issue, as far as I can tell. I was worried about this, and searched very hard for an actual case of someone having damage done to their SVS subs by cat and literally could not find a single actual example of it happening (lots of people...

    SVS prime satellite vs....?

Don't let the poor quality part of your collection limit your enjoyment of the good quality stuff! Poor quality mp3s still won't sound good with a non-flat response. The difference between good quality source material vs. poor quality mp3s may not be discernible with bad equipment (say, cheap...

    SVS prime satellite vs....?

If you're used to speakers that have a treble peak and/or bass "hump", a flat speaker might not sound right to you, at least at first. That's fine; preferences are preferences. But if flat sounds "lifeless", that means reality is lifeless. That doesn't make sense. You can always use...

10% of their income on audio related purchases

Well, that would average out to about 1.5-2% per year. That's definitely less alarming than 10% on average.

10% of their income on audio related purchases

Hmmmm...there isn't a lot of detail, but maybe that survey more heavily represents people who are in a "buying" phase, and were therefore more likely to looking at audiophile magazines to respond to a survey??? I can see spending >10% of one's income when setting up a new home theater, for...

    Digital controls...why the hell not?

Convenient controls lead to temptation from meddling kids, that's one good reason not to have them in some situations. And, yeah, for the vast majority of cases you should calibrate the sub once, and pretty much leave it there unless there's some change to the system or big change to the room.

Audioholics Announces SVS Prime Satellite 5.1 Speaker Package Giveaway!

Truly *new* technology, I'd have to say DTS-X, although it's more guarded curiosity as I'm hardly ready to make big changes to my speaker setup right now. While not "new" technology, I'm looking forward to increased availability of lossless audio formats in audio streaming and music purchases...

mp3 vs. WAV quiz from NPR Music

I think they were good examples in a "broadly representative of general listeners", but not in the sense of "to show the effects of compression". Well-recorded live symphonic music, for example, may show off the benefits of lossless file formats, but not really be relevant for a lot of people...

mp3 vs. WAV quiz from NPR Music

Interestingly, out of 3 different times I took the quiz (18 total trials), only once did I ever pick low quality (the Coldplay track, which according to the story was the only track where people picked the low-quality file the most...hmmm), so I'm a bit surprised that low-quality did as well as...

mp3 vs. WAV quiz from NPR Music

And the aggregate results are...people are just *barely* better than chance. Out of three choices, people picked the uncompressed .WAV file 36% of the time (instead of 33% one would expect by random guessing). Full story...

mp3 vs. WAV quiz from NPR Music

A pretty nice quiz/demonstration of listening for differences in sound quality for various file types: http://www.npr.org/sections/therecord/2015/06/02/411473508/how-well-can-you-hear-audio-quality

Can your sub take the intro from Live Die Repeat without farting

I think my dual SVS NSD PC-12s handle it fine, although it's hard to tell over the sound of my house vibrating apart. SVS is pretty good about limiting the performance of their subs to prevent the nasty sounds... I haven't checked to see if the limiters are triggered. I'll have to try.

Any punk fans? Doesn't sound quality make you angry?

Hmmm...depends on how broad your definition is of "punk". The Clash's "London Calling" is pretty well done, but to me it's only marginally a punk album - damn good, though. And...let's see...Repeater by Fugazi isn't the height of the recording art, but still sounds pretty darn good - rough...

    The Dumbing Down of Audio

I don't particularly care all that much if a large part of the audio market is overrun with crap, if there's also a greater variety and availability of quality stuff- which there most certainly is compared to what was typically available when I was growing up. I listened to a few commercial...
