    Sub Choices

I'd consider the HSU long and hard for your application. Would love one of their subs eventually, but I found too good of a deal on a PB-2000 locally to pass up for the time being, and I've gone Rythmik for my stereo system. I'd certainly suggest Rythmik as well for that matter, like the...

I have no idea what I'm doing

You could use surround sound processing in your receiver to have it upmix to surround, but it's not the same and that can be weird at times. There's also always the option for all channel stereo. I do think I saw something recently saying YouTube is testing surround sound support, but I'm not...

CD players vs high end CD players

If it's high end you gotta call it a "transport" to be cool.

I have no idea what I'm doing

Of course, all the best guidelines then have to face reality :D Side surrounds I'd at least put directly to your sides, but I agree that pushing back from 90 degrees is good. THX and Dolby disagree on the extent, but if you're in the 90-120 degree range you're going to make at least one of...

I have no idea what I'm doing

Agree with the others on focusing on the 5.1 first. Get that to where you are happy with it, then expand to Atmos. My receiver only does 7 channels and I eventually plan to add two more speakers as front Atmos/heights. One thing to keep in mind, and I don't think gets stressed enough, is that...

    What are you watching tonight?

Caught up on Stranger Things last night. Tonight will probably be Ms. Marvel and/or Strange New Worlds. I'm still waiting for this to be streaming on a service I already have. Don't have high expectations, but I figure I'll have fun anyway.

Where are the BIG center channels?

    You need a bigger TV!

Help me pick some surround speakers please.

All I can provide is my own experience. I recently finished setting up a home theater in a small spare room in our new house. For side surrounds I ended up choosing the Polk OWM3 because I needed something that wouldn't stick out too much, could wall mount easily, and ideally wasn't too...

New Fully NFS Optimized Sierra LX From Ascend Acoustics!

Would love if these had magnetic grills, the mesh over the tweeter would really make me want to leave these uncovered but I don't like the look of the post holes on the front baffle.

Looking for an upgrade from Ascend Sierra 1s

More than likely the case. The sub just called too much attention to itself and sounded slow in spite of my best efforts in fiddling with the placement and settings. Didn't have as much of an issue with it in our previous house tbh.

Looking for an upgrade from Ascend Sierra 1s

It was a weird way to put it, but the lack of detail or distinctness of notes was less apparent when paired with the Sierra 1s. It wasn't bad by any stretch, but the bass is more distinct now, along with reaching deeper when needed. The additional fine tuning controls also seem to be helpful.

Looking for an upgrade from Ascend Sierra 1s

These speakers were drastically outplaying my sub, just got a Rythmik F12SE in to replace my SVS SB12-NSD and the experience is so much better overall.

Looking for an upgrade from Ascend Sierra 1s

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, the BMRs are phenomenal and beautiful speakers. I'm sure I'd have been happy with the Sierra 2EX as well, but I'm very happy with these.

LG OLED C1 Series 65 for $1800 or is there something else to take a look at?

I would probably agree, don't spend a ton more on the Sony A80J if that's the other option you're considering. I got the A80CJ at Costco back around the end of November when it and the C1 were both going for $1800, a friend got the LG. Both are great sets. The LG is probably a more solid...

Looking for an upgrade from Ascend Sierra 1s

Appreciate it, if I remember that I posted this here and don't just start a new thread in a year or two if I'm unable to make a decision or find answers that I'm happy with. :D I probably will be a bit more economical with my home theater speaker selection, but time will tell.

I'm definitely excited for them. Could have gone with towers or something, but practically speaking, and for the price, the BMR 'bookshelf' speakers were too intriguing to pass on.

Looking for an upgrade from Ascend Sierra 1s

As far as stock goes, they don't hold any. I had emailed Dennis months ago and was supposed to be in the April batch, if I recall. I got bumped up to the January group due to a cancellation.

Looking for an upgrade from Ascend Sierra 1s

Sheer loudness isn't generally a concern, I fully expect the BMRs to happily play to the levels I find satisfactory in the room and at the distance I'll be seated. Hopefully I'll get to find out very soon though, waiting for that ship notification.
