anyone still purchase Standard Def DVD?

I still buy DVD, but only if the movie/series isn't available on Blu Ray. The TV series "Ghost Whisperer" is a favorite of my wife's. I bought the entire series for her as a Christmas gift, on DVD, as it's not on Blu Ray. But I have to say, the picture quality on the DVD set is excellent...

    In-ceiling/Outdoor speaker suggestions.

Lots of choices out there for both. What's your budget? I also use in-ceilings for side and rear surrounds. I went with the Mirage Omnican 6. I'm a long time fan of Mirage products. I have a pair of floor standers and 4 bookshelfs that I bought in 1989 that are still going strong. The...

    The Ten Commandments Blu Ray

Got my copy of the gift set. The collectable materials are VERY nice. I'm a big fan of these collector/gift sets. I own the collector's sets of Gone With The Wind, Wizard Of Oz, Sound Of Music among others. Some films are deserving of special presentations, and The Ten Commandments is certainly...

    FS: Toshiba A35 HD-DVD Player

Yeah, I know it's HD-DVD. But there are plenty of people who still have the format, and use it often. Like me, for instance (100 titles). :) A35. Brand new, in the box, never opened. I have several backup players, so I'm letting this one go. Asking $250+shipping to CONUS. PayPal's gift...

Yamaha RX-A3000 Aventage 11.2 Networking A/V Receiver Review

I usually use my rear surrounds with movies and TV. If it's a film that really doesn't have much in the way of surround effects, and is more dialog driven, I may use the front presence channels if dialog isn't clear. I should have added in my post that the movie DSP's are needed for rear...

Yamaha RX-A3000 Aventage 11.2 Networking A/V Receiver Review

I'm also scratching my head on this one. I have an RX-V3800. When watching a Blu Ray with TrueHD or DTS-Master HD, I use the movie DSP's all the time (adventure, sci-fi, spectacle, drama, etc.). Am I confusing this with something different/new on the new models?

    MediaMonkey or dBpoweramp for ripping?

Thanks Spark. BTW, I've been using Windows Media Player v.11 for ripping, and it seems to be doing fine. But I've read on a number of forums like this one that WMP isn't so hot for ripping. So, that's why I'm on the hunt for one. I'll be running a cable from my router to my receiver, which...

    MediaMonkey or dBpoweramp for ripping?

Hi all. Hope this is the right place for my question. I know that dBpoweramp is highly regarded for ripping. How does MediaMonkey compare? I'm looking to rip my CD's and save the files as .wav, as that's the only lossless format my receiver will play (Yamaha RX-V3800). Thanks. Jack

    Cat5 or Cat6?

Thanks GR. It's a pretty easy run, only one spot where I have to go through a wall and then up to the attic. From there it's easy to get to the wall behind my system. Did it when I installed my side and rear surrounds. The 5e is available locally pretty cheap, and it's already terminated...

Thanks! Only reason I'm looking at 5 is because it's readily available locally. Thanks again.

    Cat5 or Cat6?

Hi all. Running a cable from my router to my receiver. Run will be about 100 feet at most, probably a bit less. Right now, just for playing lossless music files. But the future could bring other things, such as a Blu Ray player with Netflix. Is cat5 enough, or do I need cat6? Thanks!

    ? about wireless net extender

Hi all. I hope the term "net extender" is correct for what I want to do. I currently have my Yamaha RX-V3800 receiver connected to my Linksys wired router using a Logitech Play Link. The Play Link consists of two small boxes. One connects to the router, the other to the receiver's ethernet...
