    Speaker Cable/Connection - Shielding

What's on the other side of the bay, and how long does it run along the line voltage? I assume it's the whole bay. If you have the option, keep it on the other side, and cross at 90deg

    LFE vs. R&L line level

Interesting, Why does a y-splitter work different then let say a satellite TV splitter\combiner? With a splitter\combiner there is a -3.5db attenuation on each output for a 1 to 2 splitter. I never exactly understood this, but the Low Voltage class I took said that even if you use only one of...

    LFE vs. R&L line level

Does it really double the signal? One cable going in has X volts, use a Y splitter and that's X/2 volts for each. Attatch to the L+R inputs, Subwoofer combines x/2 and gets X voltage. Are all these assumptions correct, or am I missing somthing? Brian

Monster Cable THX V100 CV-4 Component Video Cable (4 Feet)

Monster THX standard's? what's that? at least a 100% profit margin? Lol

Can RG6 be used for audio and video cables?

The Audioquest push on RCA connections that i've used only seem to work with the audio quest wire, it has a different diameter (outside shell and inside dielectric). But maybe they make a different style that can work on thicker cables that i am unaware of. The only drawback to the audioquest...

    Rack mounting or custom cabinetry??

I was thinking about doing the same thing with flush mounting my equipment. The rack systems were also to pricey for me as well, I have access to the back of where I want the rack from a utility room and was considering flush mounting wooden shelves that I would build myself, 19"wide, shelves...

Omni Polar speakers and Room Acoustics.

The +/-5 db was from 200hz to 20khz, below 200hz, there was a dip of -15db, but that was the lowest and +5db peak. I know my room isn't as good as the results I interpreted, so I have to be reading them wrong, I'll run the test again and fool around with the graphs. ETF is a great program but...

Reciever Vs. Seperates. Any direct comparisons?

I think Bandit has a very good point that speakers and room acoustics have a larger effect then the upgrade of a amp or receiver. Leave that aside though, as the question relates to equipment. Before I moved to the Bryston equipment, I had Denon, and before that a Yamaha. When I was shopping...

Can RG6 be used for audio and video cables?

Actually, I like using RG-6 quad shield better then standard audio cables. The shielding seems to be quite a bit better then anything on monster, etc. The only big disadvantage is that it's harder to lace,(stiffer) and doesn't look as cool. I used a 35' piece when i moved my subwoofer to the...

Omni Polar speakers and Room Acoustics.

I'll take a look at my results again... The graph that the software came up with looked like the RT was way to high, the scale on the bottom was 1.5ns... I think it was nanoseconds, not milliseconds... I don't even know what the difference is between the two. I would say that according to ETF...

    Silver finish fad

A lot of the higher end companies are going silver as well, Arcam, Bryston, etc... I love the sliver face plate on my Bryston, and it's not cheap either! looks like 1/2 aluminum milled down. Depends on the unit, and the overall finish. I agree that silver can look very cheep and plastic and...

    No need to buy CDs

Thats a good point, I think i've only fooled around with the Sirius channels, and not the CD ones, I assume they would be just as bad. I'll check it out tonight. Brian

    SPDIF not working??

There is also a "digital only" option in the volume control settings,(windows volume control) under advanced I think. This needs to be checked off. I know you said you selected it in your DVD software, but it might also need to be selected here. I just went through this issue setting up my...

    No need to buy CDs

I have Dishnetwork, with Sirius radio. I always thought the sound was compressed, and more on the MP3 level then a CD. Never impressed with the sound. What cable provider do you have? Maybe my dishnetwork music just stinks. Brian

Reciever Vs. Seperates. Any direct comparisons?

I wouldn't want to discourage you about higher quality pre\pro's. My speakers in my current set up are a weak link compared to everything else. With better speakers, a bigger difference might of been noticed. Brian

Omni Polar speakers and Room Acoustics.

Thank you all for your replys. I would agree that I am not unhappy with the setup, and I shouldn't fix what isn't broken. Honesty I love to learn as much as I can about audio\video systems, and this is the one department where I need more experience. Your replies have given me things to think...

    An Easy Question...

Universal remotes seems to be hit and miss. I've tried quite a few and just about everyone of them seemed to have a problem with a different piece of equipment. I've had decent luck with the MX350 for many customers, but it has it's drawbacks, and wouldn't learn a few commands when I tried to...

    Calibration dispute !

From what I have learned from experience and a lot of reading, The Ratshack SPL is a great tool for 50$, but it's accuracy is only down to +-2 db, which is great for a 50$ meter, it has very good repeatability, whish is more important for level calibration (who cares what the number is, as long...

Omni Polar speakers and Room Acoustics.

I'm starting to get into room tuning now, and i'm getting into the ETF program, trying to figure out what I need to do. One problem that I have is that I use Mirage Om-9 and OM-C2 omnipolar speakers, which use the room walls to reflect the sound to create their sound. I enjoy the sound of the...

Own a LG TV? (lcd, Plasma) want the expert mode password?

Thanks for the info! I've been looking to get into that mode on my LG 50PX1D. can't wait to see if it works when I get home! Now I just need to borrow a Sencore calibration unit from someone to get my gray scale right. Brian
