Which amp with Dynaudio Audience 72SE?

I'm based in Singapore at the moment - and both these are not available here. I guess the NAD it is then since I do need some juice to drive the Dynaudios For pure entertainment I went to the local version of audioholics - echoloft. Those boys spend half their time discussing wires and...

Which amp with Dynaudio Audience 72SE?

I have fallen in love with the Audience 72SE floorstanders, but confused about the amp to go with them. Currently thinking about the NAD C372. Any others in a similar price range? Setup is purely for music. Thanks

Help with Speakers - Stereo rig setup

I am looking for a stereo setup to replace the existing micro unit I have in the living room. Having been spoilt by my HT system, I have refused to spend £100 for another sub-optimal solution! I have liked (after hearing) the 1. B&W CM1 -...

    Complex setup - help please!

Thanks, but cant use in-wall or ceiling speakers as that would mean reconstruction of the ceiling - and I simply cant do that. It would be great if some of you peeps could point me to the right products... I know they exist, somewhere... but have no idea where!

    Complex setup - help please!

Hi all - need some advice. After setting up my HT, I am planning to install some nice audio equipment in the living room. I have a largish living room - 1000sq ft, but the problem is that it is L-shaped. There are two distinct sitting areas and I want speakers in both areas rather than large...

Sharp Crack from Speakers - Have I damaged them?

Pyrrho - thanks for that. Being a total noob - I have to ask this question. What exactly is the "excursion" on the speakers? More info abt the setup - the speakers are sattelites, with a frequency response of 80hz - 22 khz and power range of 20w to 100w. My yamaha has a "on paper" power...

Sharp Crack from Speakers - Have I damaged them?

My setup is described in my sig so wont repeat it. I have the crossover on the amp to 90hz. Yesterday while playing a CD, I turned up the volume to -5db (which I thought was okay, given the power rating for the amp etc.). There was a sharp crack from (I assume) one of the speakers... I...

Damaging speakers using an underpowered amplifier

Thanks for the replies... I used the YPAO to calibrate the amp, and have the crossover set to 90hz. the sub's volume usually is around 50-60%... more than that is too loud. I never turn up the knob beyond -5db on the amp. At least I havent done so till now - it is usually around -15ish db...

Damaging speakers using an underpowered amplifier

I was told by someone that I could damage my speakers if I was using an underpowered amplifier and drove it into clipping... What does this exactly mean? How do I prevent this? For reference, my speakers are rated as 20-100watts and the amp outputs a max of 100 watts per channel (I know this...

Bass Mgnt with speaker-level sub connection.

What you are after would require an Active Bass Management Circuit in the sub so that your connection would go CD Player -> Sub -> Amp -> Speakers Where the sub would output the "cleaned" signal to the amp. This would IMO carry the danger of making your speakers sound too bright, but...

Bass Mgnt with speaker-level sub connection.

Bevan, this is what I was talking about - http://www.rel.net/manuals/STORM.pdf. Thats the manual for the STORM 5 sub. Look at page 4 for instructions on hooking it up. The connection I was suggesting was CD Player --> Amp --> Speakers/Sub The Speakers and Sub take the signal...

    Equalizer

I have a yammie amp which feeds into sattelite speakers with the LFE to a sub. I like the output and the way that the audio sounds. Love it for movies, but I think the music department could do with some tweaking. The Yammie has a built in equalizer for the center channel... however that is not...

    dedicated CD/SACD player anyone?

I have a grand total of 5 SACDs - so my knowledge is slightly limited. The comparison I present above is based on playing both SACDs as well as normal Audio CDs.

Bass Mgnt with speaker-level sub connection.

Bevan - you dont need to connect the speakers in series after the sub. The way speaker level connections work - and I have tried this on my REL sub - is that you plug in the wires to the speaker outputs from the amp. Since the impedance (I am not be accurate with this) at the sub level is really...

Bass Mgnt with speaker-level sub connection.

Bevan - I assume you are on my side of the pond. I am based in the UK. I have the REL Storm 5 sub (retails for around £995), which accepts speaker level inputs and is fully controllable from the sub side, without any (mis)management ;) from the receiver's side. You also have the option of...

    dedicated CD/SACD player anyone?

I have a Pioneer DV585A universal player and it sounds really good on DVDs as well as normal Audio/SACDs... Why I say that - when I was shopping for my system (details in my sig), I decided to get a Marantz SACD player home to test, and I could not pick up the difference between a £500...

    Underneath a downfiring sub

I am new a this so I might be wrong... I was under the impression that you need to have a hard reflective surface under a downfiring sub. Having a carpet (of any kind) could absorb and dampen the output of the sub (sorry I dont know technical terms here), and make is sound muddy? You could -...

Cables - do I need to change...

Update... I did some tweaking/experimentation on the weekend. Once again, to recap my setup - I have a Pioneer DV585A DVD player with onboard Dolby processing, but I find it rather flat and toneless. I wanted to send the full signal to my amp, but inputting 5.1 from the DVD player didnt solve...

Cables - do I need to change...

Oh, and also, I am confused by all the movie processing algorithms in the Amp - it is Dolby Standard, Prologic, Prologic IIx, Prologic IIx movie, and Neo Cinema. Which algorithm is better? Till now, my tastes veer towards Prologic IIx movie... but any comments on this?

Cables - do I need to change...

I recently setup my home theater, and bought a decent (not too expensive) bunch of cables from a local shop to connect the 5.1 sockets from my DVD player to the amp. As an afterthought, I used a cable which had been lying around at home to connect the 2-channel stereo output as well. I find...
