Emotiva UPA 200 or XPA 200 to drive Sierra Towers

Dude, go for the XPA-5, more power is more power. In today's economy, you wont even miss the $100. Plus, in the end you'll save your self the nagging headache of "I should have got the XPA-2"...

    Help needed with choosing reciver.

I would go with the Marantz with all things being equal. Looking at your speakers, they all should be able to drive them plenty enough. Are you looking to just do 2 channels or go 5.1 or 7.1 eventually.

    Audioholics Showcase Home Overview

So does the company own the house? And staff get to reserve it? Or did you all chip in on the house and buy it together? What if one partner leaves the company, does he divest himself of his ownership stake? How does it work if two families want to use the house at the same time?

Here's how you hide a home theater in an older home

My walls are plaster and lathe, but in my basement it was redone with wood paneling over existing masonry walls. So it is a bit easier down there. But in the rest of the house, oh man. Many of the houses in my neighborhood have ripped out the old plaster and lathe and redid it with more up to...

An Insiders Look at Best Buy

I agree with many of the posts regarding the failure of Best Buy. Poor customer service, lack of knowledgeable staff, prices too far out of line with Internet retailers; and there is a recipe for disaster. I only go to Best Buy now to buy Movies and bargain blu-rays.

Need help with In-ceiling speaker selection

My opinion: ceiling speakers and home theater should not be used in the same sentence; unless you the words "ceiling speakers" are followed by "should not be used in". When you think about the principle theories underlying 5.1 and 7.1 systems, you will compromise the sound from your sides and...

    Questions from a complete beginner

Hey man, welcome to audioholics. I hope you stick around. I'll try to answer your questions as best I can. Your system is known as a "Home Theater in a Box" system. (HTIB) Generally sold for convenience and ease of setup. #1. It is normal for speakers to play at different volumes, which is why...

Next XBOX controls your TV/cable box with Kinect

I have a couple of VDI servers that I use to host Ubuntu MediaTomb Server, and an Itunes/Picasa server that I stream to devices in the house. But I haven't added it to my equipment list. I work in IT and I see people all the time trying to reinvent something that isn't broke, just to make a...

Need help in customizing my home theater

Is there any chance your dealers would like you demo the speakers in your room first so you can hear out they sound? At least maybe in 2 channel mode? Your room and layout will have a big impact on the sound. But if I had to choose from the setups you have I would with Wharfedale setup, as all...

Next XBOX controls your TV/cable box with Kinect

I don't like the idea at all. Why take something that works, the remote control, and make it run through a game console so you can sit there waving your arms at the camera until you get frustrated enough to go and pick up the remote. I use Kinect for my kids and wife, and then unplug it from...

Roadmap to getting rid of cable...

I have basic cable for the On Demand and standard shows. I use Netflix for my streaming needs. Everything else I wait until the Library gets it or I buy the set when it comes out. May not be the most up to date, but there aren't that many shows that i'm dying to see.

Surround Sound Speaker Cable Labeling - What to use?

I've used file folder labels. Fold them in half and write directly on the paper what the wire is for. This is primarily for behind the cabinet or in wall. The wires that are expose don't have any labeling as they are going directly from the jack panel and into the speaker.
