Need Advice Building System for College Living Room

Hi, I'm trying to build a system for my college living room. I have around a 1000 dollar budget ( Its a bit flexible) to build a small system which includes a pair of bookshelf speakers, sub woofer, and receiver (We decided floor standing towers are overkill). It would be used primarily for music, but occasionally a movie. We primarily listen to rap, pop, electronic occasionally rock if that makes a difference at all. We want them to be loud enough to fill the room and then some in case of a party, and them to be at least decently durable because we are in college. We also want a receiver that is Bluetooth compatible and allows us to build upon the system in the future if we decide to. One last note is that we love bass so if possible we want to be able to feel the bass when we want to. Any advice or recommendations are more than welcome thank you!!!

Check out accessories4less.com for receiver deals. Might consider higher sensitivity speakers like pro/dj speakers (Behringer has a few) with the limited budget and party thing. Budget a tad low but....

Buy a pair of Philharmonic Audio AA's and a receiver and then decide if you still need a subwoofer.

(I will recommend these speakers until Dennis stops making them. They simply cannot be beaten for the price, and that is entirely thanks to Dennis)

Warrior and Zieg have given you some great options.

I would offer another option for subwoofers, which is going with a pair of less expensive subs.
Dual subs even out the bass throughout the room so you are less likely to have loud and dead spots (bass is notorious for this).
I have heard and been impressed by the Dayton Subs, but Brent Butterworth says they are second to the Monoprice (which runs around $130 shipped (it ships to my zip code in Georgia for under $25), so $260 for a pair). Brent is one of few reviewers that I put faith in, so I would get a pair of the Monoprice subs!

Klipsch reference series such as the R-15m would do nicely if you want high volume for parties. They run about $200 in eBay, and will easily fill a medium to medium large room with sound in excess of 100dB with 100wpc. It looks like you're mostly concerned with music. Floor standers aren't overkill if high SPL is a requirement. The old icon kf 28 can be had for $300 a pair on eBay, its a discontinued model, so grab it while you can. I believe they measure -3dB down to 35hz, which is more than adequate for even electronic music. http://m.ebay.com/itm/KLIPSCH-Icon-Series-KF-28-Dual-8-Floor-Standing-Speaker-Pair-600W-Black-NEW-/401352228908?hash=item5d7275002c:g:4M0AAOSwBnVW9xfU&_trkparms=pageci%3A734a9a69-58a0-11e7-97a6-74dbd180c159%7Cparentrq%3Ad8a303bb15c0aa4888d9a7a9fffe74d8%7Ciid%3A4

With a sensitivity of 98dB, you're looking at a maximum SPL of 109dB 12' away. Add a Dayton sub 1200 or 1500 for $200, and a receiver for about $350-$400 and you're still under budget.

If you decided to add a center and surrounds later on, the r-25c matches the timbre close enough. The only difference between the reference series and icon is the woofer is much better in the reference, leading to better controlled bass and midrange.

I would steer clear of those monoprice sub's. A -3dB extension to 50hz is laughable. Dayton sub's are much better.
