Can you give a brief overview of exactly how Massdrop works?

I'm sure I could google and find it, but figured you could give me a quick and concise overview. Then, other AH members would have the resource available here too.

Massdrop is very similar to public group order.
To get item (aka the drop):
a) Create free account on massdrop
b) Join the drop (order the item)
c) Wait for drop date (aka mass order placed) and item will get dropped shipped to you.
d) enjoy the item

You could (and should) join the polls - or create new polls. These will influence future drops.

Pros: Typically prices are a bit or noticeably lower, plus MassDrop exclusive models which could re-badges of much more expensive retail models.
Typically cheap shipping

Cons: a) Only one really, but it's a major one: Once the item has been shipped, there are NO returns/exchanges.

Gotcha. So, possibly some of these are basically getting enough people together to start a production run, or simply to purchase an entire production run so that the volume purchased drives down the final cost?

Sounds like a good idea, but yeah, the inability to make returns is certainly an item that is critical to consider.
