After much web browsing and searching for CD's to burn
on my computer I am officially confused!

I didnt realise there were so many types of CD media and
also so many different "models" of the same thing.
for example a search on e-bay will show so many "sony" etc
discs.

What im looking for is not the pile it high sell it cheap stuff
but not the gold €10 per disc stuff either but I do want
something that is going to last under normal shelf storage.

any tips and directions would be greatly welcome, thanks in advance.

I always use CD-R

I prefer the Maxell brand.

I will also use TDK or Toshiba if that is all that is readily available.

I avoid Memorex at all costs (in my experience, these are pure junk, many players don't like them, and I've had many delaminate over the years).

I like Maxell and Sony CD-R's. Peace and goodwill.

I myself have used Maxell CD-R discs as well. Some of them I have had in my car for almost 10 years and they still play fine even tho in summer it gets over +30 out side and under -30 in winter.

Maxwell CD-R you can trust, the quality is great and still have CD's over 10 yrs that I play in my car as well in the house and folks are still asking me to copy them...You can't go wrong...

I agree; Maxell is very good; Memorex sucks. I have a Phillips CD R Recorder Model 765. The only thing I use it for is burning Karaoke sessions. Works for me.
