    Default Genesis Reunion

audioholics.com/news/uploads/genesis1.jpg">[genesis1]Wot Gorilla?  A Genesis reunion with all of the original band members?  Very possible and we are very hopeful this happens.  After seeing an interview with Peter Gabriel on Entertainment Tonight a couple of weeks ago where he sounded optimistic about it, we did a little searching and found Steve Hackett (legendary classically trained guitarist) said “there is a movement to bring us together”. This made it seem a bit more probable.  Phil Collins put icing on the cake when he made the homepage of Yahoo today where he declared “I'm happy to sit behind the drums and let Peter (Gabriel) be the singer. If (a reunion) happens, I'll be there.”  This is an event we most certainly will not miss and will keep you apprised as more info becomes available.

Stellar news! Although we've heard these rumours many times before, and only once did it become fact -- when Genesis joined Peter Gabriel back in 1983 (I think) for one show to help him out after he lost tons of money with his first WOMAD fastival. No, make that twice, I suppose, what with the 1999 remake of "The Carpet Crawlers" (I tell ya, I felt the ol' shivers down the spine, hearing that lovely combination of Peter singing with Phil singing harmonies again . . .). I would LOVE for this to happen. I always cursed myself for being born a decade (or maybe two) too late; I never saw Genesis perform in the early 70s. I did get to see The Musical Box, a Genesis tribute band, who recreate the early Genesis experience to an eerie degree, and it was extraordinary. I had tears rolling down my cheeks at the conclusion of "Supper's Ready", and complete strangers were hugging each other like they were old friends. Special, man.

Coincidentally, I just today (finally!) got around to watch the video compilation on DVD, The Video Show. Nice DTS sound! Subtle surrounds on some songs; heavy, aggressive surrounds on others -- loads of fun. No extras, which is not as fun. It just whets my appetite for all the CDs being reissued as multichannel SACDs (or is it DVD-As? -- can't remember) sometime in the near future. I get tingly every time I imagine "The Knife" or "Watcher of the Skies" in surround sound!

Anyway, enough babbling. Was there any indication that this would be a reunion concert or a reunion tour?

    cheers,

I saw SEBTP in 74 and LLDOB in 75 then Peter left. They stand out in my memory as the best live shows I've ever seen. I saw Genesis many times after, they were great shows, but with PG fronting them, it was unbelieveable. Still not sure what I was seeing (or hallucinating anyway).

This would be a real treat.

I can't stand their music, so a reunion wouldn't do much for me.

You're not alone. I love nearly all 70s prog rock with a passion but never could stand Genesis.

Have not listened to Genesis during Peter Gabriel era, I know there are fine recordings but my very best Genesis albums are "And then there were three" and "Duke"
Let us see waht this reunion will bring!

Duke is the last Genesis album with Peter Gabriel, correct?

The last album with Peter Gabriel was 1974's The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Damn fine album too, although my favourite is still Foxtrot. Duke was released in 1980, and was the fourth studio album without Peter.

NOOOO! The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is.

If and when they reunite, I hope they include some new music -assuming it's good- and don't do what Yes did last year (35th Anniversary Tour).
I hope they come to Chicago, though.
The Gabriel years are definitely the best, though there are some very good albums after he left: ATOTT, some stuff from Duke, and even some stuff from Abacab. The rest is sub par for them.
