Real Steel
Been trying to rent this one for a few days now and finally got it tonight. Yes the story follows the typical family formula with no real surprises but I thought is was entertaining none the less. The visual effects were good and as one would expect from a show with big robots, its got some decent sound and LFE. At the end my GF even asked me to play the final few chapters again, you'll know which ones when you see it. All in all its worth the rent IMO but not one I'd likely buy, maybe if its a bargin bin movie is a few years.

I watched it too. Seemed more like a kids movie, kinda boring overall. Def glad I didn't buy it.

Definitely geared towards family viewing with the kids. I gather it appealed more to me as I used to build simple computer controlled robots.

Thought it was a Rocky remake, but liked it.

i couldn't watch this with my kid because it has a PG13 rating ...
therein lies it's dilemma, it's too kiddie and too mature at the same time.
if they put in more time in the robot character's development, it could have been better IMO. (but i guess they didn't want it to distract from the father-son dynamic)

All I could think when I saw the trailer for this one was "They made Rock 'em Sock 'em into a movie with Wolverine?" LOL. Will probably rent it this week.

Rented it last night. It was relatively entertaining and can definitely see that it is geared toward kids, but definitely was a rental not a buy. Good audio and visuals, but felt like it was written by team of 12yr olds who watched too much Disney growing up. It had a similar feel to Super 8 to me, in that there's a story there but they are only telling you parts of it. I wonder if that has anything to do with Spielberg being executive producer on this one as well? Seems like he had his hand in far too many cookie jars last year.

HAHAHA!! That's exactly what I thought!! It definitely looks like a kids' movie. I might rent this movie and only because my boyfriend has a six-year-old son.
