    Default Wanted: 5.1 or 7.1

I am looking for a 5.1 or a 7.1 surround system to run with my Sony STRDH520 7.1 Channel 3D AV Receiver for 3-400 dollars total. Are there any recommendations for a decent starter system (to last for a few years, until I can afford to upgrade to a very HQ setup)?

Within that budget you are better off starting with a 2.1 or 3.1 system. You will get a higher quality speaker selection initially and you can add 2 more down the road to get you up to 5.1. There are complete packages that are around that price range in 5.1 and even 7.1, but they aren't going to be solid IMO; I'd stick to 5.1 if you have to go with a full package.

Didn't we just go through three pages of this with you over the past few days here?

So far, it looks like it's starting out with just about the same answers.

Look at Pioneer, except for their sub.
Newegg.com - Electronics, Home Audio, pioneer speakers

I would look at the Energy S10.3 sub, and it will go low

Also, the Energy sub and Boston A25, can get you started

Jerry gave great advice. It was probably hard to say.

I'd go further: Get 2 decent bookshelf speakers for now, and use them as you mains. They can be a presence surround channel later.

You'll only have one channel now (stereo), but you won't buy more speakers that you'll likely not be happy with long. Maybe not 'Buy once, cry once', but closer to that.

I will sell my Definitive-Technology-ProCinema-Speaker-System. I just took them down and replaced with James loudspeakers. These are a great system. Let me know thinking of putting them back up in craft room.
