Arrow Emotiva Launches new Pro Website and Active airmotiv Monitor Loudspeakers

Emotiva launched their pro line at CEDIA 2011. To kick off the brand, they released three powered two-way monitor speakers designed for discriminating audiophiles in the home and studio environment. The airmotiv6 ($799/pair), airmotiv5 ($599/pair) and the airmotiv4 ($399/pair). All three models feature their own proprietary ribbon high frequency driver and bi-amplification with active crossovers as well as both unbalanced and balanced input connections. All speakers come with a 5 year transferable warranty and a free 30 day in-home trial period. These speakers look pretty awesome and we look forward to conducting a full review and host of measurements.

Hopin they sound good, but that looks somewhat like tweeter bloom around 3khz. Might be a bit bright in a reverberant space.

    Default Wond'ring aloud

Over the past few years, despite never having seen or heard an Emotiva product, I've come to be impressed by the reviews for their gear I read here and elsewhere and by their extremely moderate prices.

    OK, Cheap prices.

I'm considering, so my wife doesn't kill me, getting an Emotiva Pre-Pro and using it to be the front end of my home theater gear. The idea being that it's a lot cheaper to buy a good pre-pro than it is to buy a whole new high-end receiver.

    Anyhow, I digress.

Just one thing confuses me about the design of these monitors (and it's probably more a testament to my own ignorance than anything else): why, when just about everything I've ever read says that bass output requires more power than the treble at the same SPLs, do you they split the power output pretty much evenly down the middle (25 watts for bass and 25 watts for treble, for instance).

    Just wondering...

    Hi,

Looks good but you can get it cheaper even after playing the 7 different game with qmsaudio.com/en
The price for the "Airmotiv5" = Q5 is 2500CNY = 390USD on taobao.com you can search QMS Q5 for example.
    The price for the "Airmotiv4" = Q4 is 1850CNY = 290USD
The price for the "Airmotiv6" = Q6 is 3800CNY = 595USD, there is a picture of the back-plate on QMSaudio.com if you want to compare.

Nice margin Emotiva; I am sure you make you own QC and select all the components yourself...

If you go to the first link he posted, you can see the airmotiv speakers are the exact same speakers that qms makes. Manufacturing in China is commonplace and necessary in most industries in order to be competitive, but on the other hand, using a Chinese design and rebranding it is a shame

To my eyes, they're exactly the same ones though.
I wouldn't consider it a scam, but a shame, as a matter of fact.

Nothing wrong with re-branding, but keeping premium prices for 3rd party designed and made product is a bit greedy imo. Yes, I know emotive would probably say they "modified" it to their specs.. still I'd get it if the pair would cost $100/150/200 accordingly
    TV: TC-P55ST30 , AVR: TX-SR805. The Speaker Company 2x TST2, TC2, 2x TSB , Premier Acoustic PA-120 Sub, Netgear NeoTV 550, Harmony 880 URC RFS200, PC->Toslink-> Audioengine D1->JBL LSR2325P

Hmm. I thought the new Emo speakers had a familiar look. I will call them and question them about this. Perhaps its a joint operation between both brands.
