I think Diana Krall has one of the best female singing voices I've heard.
How did this thread make it to page 6, before the first mention of Diana Krall. Now I know that the world is coming to an end.

I mean, the subtlety in her voice is just phenomenal. I am absolutely in love with her voice.

There are two female voices that always do it for me:

Kate Bush -- her first two albums, not so much. But from the fourth album onwards, that voice is heavenly. No one can touch Kate when it comes to absolute beauty (voice-wise).

Shirley Manson -- the first time I heard a song from Garbage, I froze in my tracks. Who is that? Shirley's voice is the most sultry, aggressively sensual, sexual voice I've ever heard. She's got a voice that is, to be blunt, like sex. her voice just squirms into my brain and keeps caressing and stroking my senses until I can't take it anymore. Take that however you want!

cheers,

If you are going on vocal talent alone then it will be a short list. A few that come to mind are,

Janis Segal of the Manhatten Transfer( Powerful singer is she, mmmm powerful) LOL:)

Pat Benatar when she is singing blues or jazz

Linda Ronstadt when she is singing big band( Nelson Riddle taught her a lot)

Anita Baker (Amazing vocal range)

Oleata Adams ( Great range as well)

The fat sister from Heart. If she was trained to sing jazz or blues she would be awesome.

Kate bush, she has a great voice just lousy music for the most part.

There are a lot of good sounding females but these ladies are a cut above most.

I'll second Sade, K.D. Lang and Karen Carpenter.

I'll add Leanne Rimes only because I liked her debut song "Blue".

Not a big fan of her songs, but Christina Aguilera's voice is probably the best of her generation.

Oh yeah... you canNOT forget about Karen Carpenter. Amazing voice indeed.

Also... Aimee Mann is a great vocalist and musician.

I would love to have heard Karen Carpenter sing some big band jazz, or some Diana Krall type jazz. Think how that might have sounded.

After looking through my ENTIRE music list on my computer (13.4 gigs) I have Gwen Stffani, that's it.

Shes hot, so she gets my vote.
