SVS PB-1000 vs HSU STF-2 vs Klipsch R-110SW

Currently looking to upgrade a HT subwoofer. The HT setup is in a bonus room (22x18x8). Based on budget, I have pretty much narrowed down my choices to the following:

SVS PB-1000
HSU STF-2
Klipsch R-110SW

Based on the room size, which would be the better option? I am leaning more towards the SVS (based on reviews), but was pretty impressed with the sound from the Klipsch. Have not heard the HSU, but have also seen plenty of solid reviews, although the BASH amp gives me a little pause due to some reliability issues I have been reading about with that amp type.

over 3k cuft, especially if the room is open to other rooms/spaces - neither of these subs will be good enough imo.
Based on price of pb1000 - your budget is about $500
I would recommend this kit - it's a simple build - basically just glue and clamp.

And for amp - you easily get pro amp for $200

Interesting idea. Never really considered the DIY subs. I guess at any rate, I need to go with a larger sub (12 -15").

I would rule Klipsch R-110SW out right away. But like BSA said, you are better with sub that has higher output cabability.

What's wrong with the Klipsch? Output, accuracy, reliability? I have read some pretty good reviews for the larger R-115SW. Would the SVS provide that much greater output?

I would definitely go for the R-115SW over the other subs you mentioned. You need output in that room, and none of the 10" subs will do the job. I would also be looking at the EMP Tek I-12, Hsu VTF2 mk4, or Rythmik LV12r.

From what I have been reading, that R115SW is a worthy contender. I like what I see on the HSU VTF2, I'm just leery of the BASH amp reliability.

I don't think you need to be concerned about BASH amps. I have seven subs, six of them have BASH amps. The only sub that ever gave me problems was the one that does not have a BASH amp. And all of my subs are over 5 years old, my VTF3 mk3 is 8 years old, never a problem with the amps.

It depends - it's performance is not bad and can be a good value if you can get it for $500, BUT at it's MAP of $899 there are better options for sure. HSU VTF-3mk5, Reaction Audio, PSA and new Rythmic FVX15 sub.
You got to understand something here: The DIY Kit I linked above and you could build it around $500 will closely compete with these 900-1000 commercial offerings.

To rephrase a words from BOC song don't fear the BASH. This specific amp design doesn't necessarily makes HSU amps less reliable. HSU sells thousands of subs, and I yet to hear any noticeable mentions with their amps.
Dr HSU is very talented, not bs engineer and he knows how to build great products at decent price and he's been doing it for quite a while now.

I guess I should keep the HSU under consideration. Good to hear some positive first-hand experience.

Good info! Thanks for the insight. Looks like HSU comes well recommended around these parts.

Agreed. the Klipsch has fine performance for a $500 sub, but for $900, you can get sub from Hsu or Rythmik that will walk all over it.

The r115sw goes on sale for $720 if you don't mind waiting.

I have the rs110sw in the same size room placed mid wall and does the job very good and it's only turned up halfway. Placement was huge factor.

Good to hear! I was curious as to how the R110-SW would perform in a medium to large size room.
