Hopefully im posting in the right area, but i have a question about the setup i have in my car.

my friend sold me 3 12 inch subs in sealed box, amp and all the wiring for 150. its an older system but it worked and sounded decent so i picked it up.

im pretty sure the subs are Power Acoustik BL-12 and are rated 600watt and 300RMS. what i do know is they are 4ohm speakers and are dual voice coil. the speakers themselves do not have a model number on them, i went by a few websites that had these speakers once for sale. and they look identical to what i have so im assuming thats what i have.

the amp i have is a Chip Foose Arc Audio FD 600.1 monoblock single channel amp. which i read is rated like 625 watts or something like that.

the amp is set at 1ohm right now. it has the option for 2ohm as well. he said the subs shouldnt be running at a 1ohm load.

is this the way i should have these setup? or is there a different way or setting i should have these? the system works fine, but im nervous about turning them up, i just want to get the most out of my system without blowing anything.

Hey all,

I'm new here and have a setup that I've probably had for close to 10 years. It consists of Sony SS-MB150H bookshelf speakers, Polk PSW10 Subwoofer, a paradigm center channel and a Sony STR DE-695 receiver. I was considering replacing the entire system or getting the Energy take classic speaker set. But looking up these products on amazon it seems like they are all pretty highly rated. I have around $500 to spend. Can I do anything better than my current system for that much? Or should I use that money to upgrade a certain component or just leave the system as is? I have no idea how to evaluate the performance of my current setup and compare it to a system I can buy now. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello everyone!
I've always been more of a headphone guy, but now a friend of my parents said I could have these old Wharfedale Diamond 6R's. So now I basically have two questions. First of all, I literally can't find anything on these things, so does anyone own/know these speakers? If so, what are we talking about here?
Second of all, the casing for one of the speakers is a bit damaged, so I thought it might be possible to build two new casings, but I know everything audio is quite precise. So what would you say, would it be possible to make new casings without compromising the quality?
Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone.

Nice to meet you all. I am Isaac from New Zealand. And I am very stuck and very confused about audio systems and was hoping that some kind people could give me a hand.

I have been scouring our local audio stores and sparkies showrooms etc for weeks now and basically i'm at a loss. There are just too many options for a noob like me. I just really want a system designed by some honest people. Not salesmen who just want to sell me the most expensive system.

So I hope you all here can help me out!

Here is the plan for my house.

https://mega.co.nz/#!rRdhQTKb!WhcQfV...S3cut8DatXIe3c

So at this stage I am wanting to setup a surround system in the lounge area. Preferably the smaller wall mounted speakers not the big floor standing ones as it is open plan and would not really work I think, as far as space etc goes. I had a look at one showroom that had in wall and in ceiling. I quite liked that setup but just wanted peoples opinions on in ceiling and in wall. I think it was a Sonance system?

But while the house is being built I will run some cables to the en suite and outdoor speakers also. So I guess that means I need a multi zone amp.

I also called into one place that showed me a Bose system for about $3000NZD. It sounded quite nice but reading around I have heard mixed reviews saying you could get a 1k system that is better.

I had a look at the "what to buy" section. The 2.5k 5.1 system sounds like just what I need with maybe some small changes?

Also with being in NZ we get ripped off big time here it's ridiculous I am going to try and import if it's possible. The 2.5k system that you have listed I would say would be 5-6k here!

Anyway any help I would really appreciate because hours on ebay/amazon/stores I really am at a loss what to do!

Thanks again.

Isaac

Hello, hopeful of resolving my little dilemma here!

I bought an ordinary speaker for my ordinary computer, and ordinary apartment. But the sound was small, like a tin, worse than my old speaker which lasted me almost 10 years! I returned it and started reading all I could on the internet and I now have explanatory hieroglyphics coming out of my ears... lol!

Yes, I understood those explanations (sort of) but oh so confused as to how to apply them to purchase a simple speaker with decent decibels. I gathered that around 70ish decibels would satisfy my listening, but then this doesn't appear on the labels or websites where speakers are sold.

I hope a kind soul will tell me how to find out the power, decibels, etc. of a speaker before I buy it since I hate to return the merchandise.

Thanks ever so much for any help! :) Adela

I've been doing a lot of reading and things are starting to make more sense but I'm still very new to AV so please bear with me because I'm probably making this way more complicated than it really is.

What I'm trying to accomplish:
Running a 5.1 surround system for movies and then switching to a separate set of larger stereo speakers for music. I'd like to use the same subwoofer for both sets of speakers.

My equipment:
Receiver - Sony DA5ES
Surround - One of the Dayton theater sets from partsexpress. They're fairly small bookshelf units so a little weak for music.
Subwoofer - 10" active sub, part of the Dayton set. Connected to receiver's sub pre-out via 1 RCA cable.
Stereo speakers - I don't have these yet, but I've got a line on some nice vintage Genesis 1+ speakers. 8 ohms, same as surround.
CD Player - I've been playing them through my DVD player (digital coax out) but I've been thinking of getting a separate multi-disc unit.

Possible options that have occurred to me according to my novice understanding:
#1) Wire large speakers in with L/R fronts and use a speaker switch to manually turn off one set or the other as needed. I'd like to avoid this if I can make my existing equipment handle it. Plus I might not always feel like getting up off the couch!

#2) My receiver has outputs for 2nd and 3rd rooms. My sub has RCA inputs and high level input/outputs. The right RCA input is already connected to surround. I could run speaker wires from the 3rd room receiver outputs to the sub's high level inputs and then connect the large speakers to the high level outputs.

Here's the back of my sub and receiver for reference. Is there an easier or better way to do this? Anything I'm overlooking? Thanks!
Since the first receiver was a network receiver, I decided to go with a straight receiver since I won't have to worry about firmware updates. Not sure if this has anything to do with the issue we had, but it was a PITA and several days before I could finally get the firmware updated. IMHO, the more technical a product is the more that can go wrong.

The SR5005 will give more WPC to the Infinity Primus 252 speakers, and we'll be getting a Zone 2 if/when we want to add speakers to the deck which is a nice bonus. I am really excited and cannot wait for the shipment to arrive this Saturday.

Since the SR5005 is not a network receiver, we needed something that will give us internet radio. After going to our local BB store, I decided to get a Roku XS. Even after reading articles, I do not see how this will be possible, which is the reason for this thread. Does anyone use/have used one of these devices, and I would like to read your thoughts/opinions on going this way for internet radio, and did you experience any issues/problems with your unit. I hope I made the right choice in not getting a network receiver, and the Roku was the cheapest way to get internet radio.

Thanks in advance for your help!

First time posting to the Forum. Good day all!

I'm hoping to garner sound (pun intended) setup advice for my first analog/2 channel system. I have a robust A/V platform, but am aching to take advantage of a bequeathed, 500+ LP collection that has recently come into my possession. My budget is limited (I'd like to target < $3K), and so too is the listening space (I live in condo in Washington, DC). First up, the space:

Living room/bay-window alcove that measures approximately 15 ft x 13 ft. Eames easy chair, hardwood floors, and a generously sized turkish rug. That's it. That's the space where I'll be doing my listening. Large, 3 panel bay windows are the centerpiece.

Equipment:

I'm a bit of loss in this department. I know I'll need speakers and a turntable. What's next, the drive of the system, is where I'm totally confounded. Given my cash constraints I assume I'll need a capable Integrated Amp that has, preferably, a dedicated phono input. I realize that it may not be an option, so having a separate phono stage is fine as long as it keeps me in my price range. I already posses an OPPO BDP-103 SACD, so I'm good to go in that arena. Integrated Amps I've been considering:

* NAD C-316BEE -or- 326BEE
* Marantz PM-5004
* Outlaw Audio  RR2150

That's as far as I got before being overwhelmed. Next up, speakers and a turntable. Not even sure where to begin.

Thank you, in advance, for any and all help.

I have read all the reviews on these speakers and everyone loves them saying how the bass is so good. I hear nothing good coming from these speakers I have to set it at about -40db to hear decent sound. I am streaming iTunes music thru the denon receiver I also have the bass and treble turned up on the speakers to 10.
My friend has a Sonia speaker an I think that sounds a whole lot better then my speakers and my reviever is putting 110 watts to these speakers.

Please help
