A friend of mine is looking to get some good party speakers, I would like some recommendations to look into. I am the audio person all my friends turn to, but I have never looked into something like that. I was thinking some Cerwin Vega V-15Fs. Something with a large bass driver and high durability is a must. Thanks a million!

C-V has a good rep for tough and loud....BUT not tough enough for frequent partty use.

for large parties (like frat parties), get some PA speakers, and maybe a PA sub. It will be pricey, but you can't get someting loud, deep, and durable for cheap.

Used is a good place to start for PA gear.

Ok let me try to clarify, this wouldnt be constant partying this would be like once every three weeks in no more than a 20X30 room or smaller, so probably nowhere near max volume. If anyone replying could be more specific with brands and put some links up it would be greatly appreciated.

The list is more for party speakers - you know, rock, house, r/b, rap. These are very efficient speakers and very loud with just about any receiver. If you are going to be playing music loud for hours, look for horn style tweeters. They will handle the heat a lot longer than paper or dome tweeters. They are the first to go when played for a long period of time. Most of these below won't require a separate sub. The cabinets are larger than your average sub, so the bass will be awesome if placed in corners. These should give your buddy a range for whatever his budget is.

Cerwins from JR is what I was thinking also. I would look at all the Cerwin options at JR.

Klipsch used to make this awesome party speakers in the late 80's that
typically pops up on Ebay from retiring D.J. I used to DJ myself and a competitor of mine had 4 of these bad boys and they were incredible.

About a 105 effeciency, 500 W RMS rated and a 15" woofer in each.
The sound was clear no matter how loud. Often DJ speakers have
unbearably shrilling treble when played at high levels...not these.

I'll do some "goggling" and see if I can find the name.

Don't know if you are even considering used so I should have asked that first...

Get the older versions of VMPS, they rock like no others guaranteed. They will sound good while doing it too. Hard part is finding some for sale as they are rarely sold.

They're call La Scala's and while they were not designed specifically as
D.J. speakers, many DJ's used them because of their durablility, effeciency,
and professional look. From what I just read about them a 100 watt receiver would pretty much blow away and high school gym or backyard barbque you
ever had to fill with party music.

Apparently they are near audiophile quality as well...it appears many retiring
D.J.'s have them refinished and then use them for their home. Check this URL for multiple reviews:

You must be the one I see on tv. You are that person who has been to every club in the world. WOW! You really get around.

This speaker?

That thing retailed for over $4000. No way would a DJ ever buy or use something that expensive for shows. I agree, it probably sounded spectacular, but at that price point, I have to disagree on it's usage as a dj loudspeaker.

Go with the Cerwin Vega listed above. Nothing will compare to it at it's price and spl level.

Buy some JBL or Behringer PA speakers (the latter being less expensive) and power them with a Crown amp or a Behringer amp (the latter being the less expensive).

The Klipsh La Scala made me laugh.

Stay away from the CWs and that. You need PA speakers.

Behringer makes good stuff for the dollar, regardless of their shady past. Their amplifiers are hard to beat for the money:

JBL is more expensive, but is generally considered among the best (or THE best) in small time PA sound reinforcement.

Crown is considered one of the best among amplifiers:

Good luck, stay away from the -10 home ****. It's not going to last. PA gear can be found on a budget (and certainly less than that Klisph, hahaha, that cracks me up) and it will last you a long time and provide a lot of enjoyment at parties.

Not sure what your budget is, but this will last you your entire "partying" career:

It's just under a grand for the whole package, including stands. JBL and Crown stuff is very good quality.

Behringer makes a 15" cab that has a built in amplifier. Might be just what you are looking for. Just plug a computer up to it with WinAmp and you are ready to go! ;) Or even better if you got a buddy with a pair of turntables. $500 bucks and you are ready to rock.

B-stock: http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-BEH-B300-BSTK.html

Or, if you want perfect:
http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-BEH-B300.html

And still only 600 bucks for a pair of 'em.

Or you could go Behringer seperates (amp and unpowered cab).

I go to college, and at a party, I'm always disapointed when some guy bought some CWs and is trying to push them. When your out partying or throwing a party, you need something to damage some peoples hearing. ;) You want those blazzing, sometimes painful highs, and the durability of PA speakers too. People are going to be drunk around them. Home speakers are GUNNA BREAK. It's just a matter of when.

I've seen JBL Pro speakers get kicked over from their stand, fall to the beer soaked concrete, and still play like brand new. Actually, when that happened, the speakon connection didn't even come loose and it was still playing laying on the ground.
