Hi all - I need help with some set-up issue. I just bought a NAD T763 receiver. The problem is that all of my music collection is on my iPod - I actually don't know where the CD's are.

In any case, what are my options in term of playing my music over by HT system? I know that I can just hook up the iPod directly. Any other set up configurations?

Thank for all the help.

You can go direct out through a high quality mini to RCA cable.

I went a different route. I use a dedicated PC with a 400 gig hard drive. I transferred my CD collection in WAV. I leave it on all day with iTunes running to act as a server. I keep a Roku M2000 running through a Musical Fidelity X-X-DACv3, X-PSUv3 & X-10v3 into my B&K 507 S2. I also run a Roku M1000 in my kitchen and garage. Really cool product.

A month ago I didn't even know anything about iPods, Rokus, headphones, etc. Then my business associate gave me a shuffle. Now I'm importing CDs to my hard drive all night, using a 60gig iPod for WAV, a 20 gig and 4 gig for 320 kbps MP3s, using 2 dedicated headphone amps (SR-71 and Musical Fidelity X-Can V3) and have 4 headphones (Sennheiser HD 650s and 595s, Etymotic E4S's and Shure E5cs).

Fortunately all that stuff is not nearly as expensive as main HT theater components. I highly reccomend the Roku route. They sell an M500 for $150. It has all the functionality of the bigger units but a cheaper display. If you have a good DAC, the quality of your files should be the only bottleneck to getting excellent sound and an incredibly convenient jukebox.

I'm using a Media MVP.

It's inexpensive, about $90, and works well, althought it's nothing fancy. I have my CD collection ripped at 192 kbps in MP3 format in iTunes. I use this mostly for my mulitroom system but it sure is nice to sit down at my HT and have my entire collection available via a remote. I also have an iPod Mini.

i use a d-link dsm-320. i like it because it has software that creates an interface on your tv to select songs (like an ipod on your tv). it also streams photos and video which is nice.

I bought a Monster ipod connector, about $50. it did make a difference from the cheap red and white Rad shack specials...

I leave the cord plugged in to the front of my Denon 3805 , the V.AUX inputs. I really like the Ipod with my HT system as you can fool around with the EQ on the Ipod..bass boost, etc...I like it on "R+B" or "classical" or just good ol "bass enhancer"

Thanks for all the input.

I'm running a Mac and have lots of songs that I purchased from the iTunes website. I read that the Mac won't let the Roku soundbridge plays these songs (i.e can't stream these songs wirelessly).

Duffinator - for your set-up, are you leaving your computer on all day and can the MVP let you control songs, etc... from your HT location

The MVP can control your PC, for music, video, and photos and I use it for all three. Hence the MVP name. But it will not play AAC files. While I do buy songs from iTunes I usually burn and re rip as MP3's and my entire collection is MP3's. I did a lot of research on this before I decided to go with iTunes. I felt iTunes/iPod was the best combination for me but wanted the added flexibility so decided to rip MP3's. You can find out a lot more info on MVP by searching around this site. Rumor has support for AAC in the future but this is not a big product for Hauppauge so updates take a while.

I'm not sure any of the no-apple products will let you stream the songs purchased form itunes. the simple soultion is to burn them onto a CD and rip them back as unprotected files.

Personally, I decided to store my entire collection in WAV. Even with Apple Lossless, the Roku converts it first, so WAV seemed like the better choice.

Depending on how picky your ears are, you'll get some degradation from the AAC/m4p -> CD -> mp3 conversion process. Sleestack is correct; as of right now, Apple hasn't licensed anyone to stream iTMS-purchased music over any other hardware. You have 2 options to go direct. Jack your iPod right into your receiver/pre-pro, or get an Airport Express and push music from iTunes to your stereo.

Yeah - you're right. Unfortunately, you can't control your music with the Airport Express unless the computer is in the same room as your HT. I'm actually consider buying the Mac mini so that I will have internet as well as music in my HT. Sorta like Sleestack using a dedicated computer as a server.
