2channel to 4 channel options?

Im trying to figure out a way to switch a 2 channel 5.1 tuner/amp to allow a b channel output to outdoor speakers.

Currently connected an a/b/a+b switch to run both zones at the same time or one and not the other.
The output to internal 2channel drops drastically in dual use mode ( expected) , but the sub woofer (SW) still runs at the origional power level output from the reciever in the house as do the surrounds (when being used as in "hall" mode for full room music listening.

The reciever only has an "A " channel. When I run both zones , the interior main speakers get distorted when I try to increase the volume level to make up for the power division to the two zones, and the sw runs louder than the mains.

the sub is run on a "pre out". the speakers are set up for surround positioning in the interior room.

any suggestions on how to connect using the existing equipement:
1) a 5.1 channel reciever
2) a powered sub
3) an a/b/c/a+b/a+c/b+c switch (not an amp)
4) outdoor speakers being run with Niles in line 2 channel volume control after the switch.

or possible ideas on a cheap solution. ?

...and is expressing it's displeasure in the only way it knows how. Here's a few possibilities to keep in mind.

Possibility 1. Generally, if a receiver doesn't have a built in a/b switch, it isn't designed to handle more than one set of speakers.

Possibility 2. When a signal is sent to two speakers, the available power is split between the two speakers.

Possibility 3. That the A/B switch you're using probably connects both sets in parallel, which causes the "impedance", or resistance seen by the amp to be halved. Many amps don't play well with low impedance loads. See possibility 1.

Possibility 4. Consider yourself lucky that your receiver only distorts and loses volume. Generally, maintaing any of the three possibilities stated above could cause your receiver to cease to function.

You may want to rethink the A/B switch.
