HELP! Speaker problems with home theatre

I recently bought a Curtis Home Theatre system DVD 6040. The left and right surround speakers only give off white noise when I play a DVD... but they're fine with a CD or the TV!? :confused:

You need to go to the menu on the dvd & choose 5.1. It should be listed on the main menu of the dvd. Sometimes it is under the language option as 5.1 english.
