Yamaha NSP106 home theatre package

Hello All

I just bought online the Yamaha nsp106 home theatre package from Futureshop in Toronto...

i am just curious and a first timer in buying a home theatre.. is this sufficient for me to connect to my tv or panasonic dvd player to view movies/tv with home theatre background. Do I need to have a receiver(amplifier) to start with or this home theatre package is sufficient for me to get started. Your help will be truly appreciated

Yes you will need a receiver to power your speakers and to process all the audio and video from the DVD player.

in that case i will return the package and buy a home theatre system with receiver along with that rather than buying a receiver as standalone different one..

If it were me I would buy a separate Receiver...the ones in a Home theater in a BOX are not the best (they lack inputs, expandability, wattage, and don't "sound" as good as stand alone ones)....they are made for a certain price point...if you like the way the speakers sound...keep the speakers, and buy a receiver...I would look into Onkyo. The speakers need a receiver to function. You can find many nice recievers if you look around a bit. I think yamaha has some sub-$200 models that could work fine for you.
