Is is generally thought that firewire will be the standardized digital connection for the newer audio formats? If so when do you think receivers will start incorporating firewire inputs?

For the foreseeable future, yes, in fact, IEEE 1394 is the only digital connection that carries all digital audio signals currently in use.

sadly enough, right now it only carries control signals back and forth between a very few select pieces of equipment. Firewire is the single biggest waste of space on my Mitsu 55 inch HDTV TV (and in the manual, which could have been better used on features other than "fire" wire). :(

I thought HDMI was the new "end all" digital connection for both audio and video? Receivers are now starting to show up that switch HDMI.

My dad bought a 55 Mitsu Rear Proj. and now he wants to sell it to get a DLP or something of that effect. He has the Mitsu for about 2 years now.

Yes, HDMI does DVD-A.

After researching this topic of HDMI, I found that HDMI and DVI, although different plug-ins, support each other. Im sure, but I believe that Firewire is different altogether. It doesnt have the bandwidth of HDMI.

HDMI does not carry SACD.It's not that it couldn't. It's because Sony hasn't authorized it yet. HDMI is supposed to be beyond Firewire and should be the "standard" going forward. In other words, I'd be more concerned about new equipment having HDMI compatability than Firewire for both audio and video.

Yes, and I have been researching all this lately trying to get a grip on it. HDMI has, what, about 5 Gbps bandwidth compared to 800 Mbps for Firewire(I.Link). Also, HDMI is backward compatible with DVI.

THe Denon 5805 has HDMI and DVI-D inputs and outputs.

Yes, the Denon 3910 DVD player has an HDMI output, a DVI-D(digital only signal)output and 2 firewire audio outs. pretty impressive
