Hi,

New to the forum and have a Pioneer 45a DVD/SACD/DVD-a player. I'm connecting it up to the Denon AVR 2105 receiver and want to know if there's any reason I shouldn't just comnect the Digital Audio from the DVD player to the receiver. In particular, is there any reason when playing DVD-a and SACD that I would prefer to have the individual 6 channels out from the DVD to the receiver?

Seems like the digital audio cable should provide 96 Khz sound, six channel and then I wouldn't have to adjust my speaker levels in the DVD player but use my already setup levels in the Denon.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks
Phil

Well, if you're trying to get the 5.1 channel sound you're going to *have* to use the analog inputs on your 2105...the only Denon deck(s) that use the digital hookup for DVD-A and SACD right now are the 3805, 5803, and the 5805...and they only use the denon link for only the DVD-A (you still need the 6 cables for SACD). You'll get sound from the digital hookup with your deck, but it'll be the Dolby Digital (or possibly the DTS) for the DVD-A...not the discrete 5.1 surround. Denon keeps claiming that the Denon Link will carry the SACD signal when it's approved, but they've been saying that for a year or two now; I'll believe it when I see it at this point.

Thanks Bryan,

Figured out after I hooked everything up that the SACD from the 45a only plays in the 2105 through the direct hookups.

Still sound good to me.
