Martina McBride (only Linda Rondstadt and possibly Enya have more pure vocal talent, and Enya leans heavily on processing for her sound)

the Guess Who (they kept playing a free outdoor concert at a military base in West Texas in pouring rain with all of about 50 people standing around the stage screaming their heads off, and somehow I don't think U2 can say that)

Foghat (the best bar band in the world, no matter how big the bar)

the Moody Blues (the most complex backing music and vocals ever put on tape)

Queen (ok, Freddie was weird with a capital WEIRD, but very few groups did as many different things with music)

Flaming Lips
Blackmore's Night
Slayer
Liz Phair
Queensryche

What kind of music is Fourplay? I've never heard of 'em. Btw, I love Alive in Chains, too.

Rush
SRV
Van Halen
Joe Satriani
Yngwie Malmsteen

But that's only considering guitar-oriented rock. Put Joe at the top followed by Eddie ;) .

Def Leppard
Queensryche

Yngwie and Satch are both gods! I have all their stuff. The last couple of Satriani ones I also have on MC SACD- wow! Talk about some great sounding guitar rock.

Fourplay is a smooth jazz quartet...Bob James, Larry Carlton, Harvey Mason, and
Nathan East. Very popular within that sect. I'm a huge jazz fan, but they're a bit
too schmaltzy for my taste. I do admit I have their first self titled CD from 1991
and it has outstanding sonics...it's also now available on DVD-A.

Looks like Floyd seems to be the most common response in my "gee whiz" survey
so far. They certainly would have made my 6-10 list. Saw a few Whos as well.
They were never my cup of tea. I'll finish off my top ten for the hell of it...

6) Jimi Hendrix Experience
7) Pink Floyd
8) Weather Report
9) Bob Marley and the Wailers
10) Rage Against the Machine

I'd love to put Steely Dan in there because I love their music but I just can't
think of them as a band for some reason. It's just two guys and a bunch of
"ringer" studio musician guns for hire.

Forgot to add

Roy Harper's Folkjokeopus - Average acoustic guitar on the worst recordings ever but you still have to sit and listen because of the message. Incidently, the subject of the song on Led Zep III "Hats off to Roy (Harper)"

I was truly wondering when Steely Dan/Donald Fagan were going to hit the list! Mine (in no particular order);

Steely Dan/Donald Fagan
Supertramp
Electric Light Orchestra
Moody Blues
Fleetwood Mac

Honorable mentions would go to;

Fourplay
Yellow Jackets
Manhattan Transfer
Toto
Abba (no jokes! )

Linda Ronstadt, Martina McBride and Enya all do in fact have wonderful voices, but don't forget Charlotte Church (at about 16-18 yrs old) and Barbara Streisand! ;)
