There is NO way I would put Waterworld as "Worst Movie Ever Made"
Not even close.
Granted, it is not a movie I would purposefuly watch again.
But I would have no problems, being at someone elses house that had it on.

Many of the bad movies listed so far were never intended as more than light entertainment. What makes Waterworld stand out is that it aspired to greatness and failed miserably.

Has anyone mentioned Ishtar yet? I never saw it, but I remember it being universally regarded as one of the worst movies ever made at the time.

I saw it in the theater when it first came out. Silly entertainment. Not great, but not terrible either. (Like Waterworld, it aspired to be far better than it actually was.)

Nope never saw the movie.
Just wanted to point out, that IMO, that is not how I critique a bad movie.

I would say the way you explained it as a boringly bad movie. (that obviously, did not stick out in your mind as REALLY BAD)

I have seen tons of OK movies (and even boring movies) that I can't remember a thing about.
It is the 1 single movie that sticks in my mind as SO BAD, that it would stick in my mind as WORST movie. (and for me NEVER to watch again)

I've always had a certain fascination with bad movies. Now and again I enjoy a movie so bad that it makes me cringe, but it takes a certain gumption and spirit to make something like that (Plan 9 or Legend of Boggy Creek come to mind). On the other hand, the movie I can't remember is usually a technically competent, corporate product, kinda like white soap, that has no heart, no weirdness, bad or no humor, just like other similar movies. I think you brain will die sooner with the latter than the former

Waterworld was pretty bad, but any movie with an over-the-top Dennis Hopper usually has a high enough cringe factor to be worth the view. I do admit though that Kevin Costner with gills and all those people fighting over a handful of dirt was quite a sight.

I have a new one. It's called: Create Your Own Worst Movie of All Time!

_____ Movie. Fill in with your favorite choice of word: Epic, Date, Scary, etc. For additionally suckiness, you can add a roman numeral at the end! Yay!

My vote on this would have to go with "Blair Witch2: Book of Shadows". I cannot believe it took until page 14 of the thread for it to be mentioned.

There was a good nude scene, but even that was nowhere near enough to make me sit through it. Worst of all, I own it on DVD :(

I think the reason BW2 was mentioned is because nobody saw it besides you :D

But I thought the goth chick was hot, so maybe I'm a little biased. I thought the first one was totally stupid, and not scary at all.

NICE!! Good one j_garcia.

To lower myself even more I will have to admit that it is still in my DVD stand after 5 moves. I take it out, think about throwing it away, pack it up and then unpack it at my next residence. I think I am just waiting until I have the only remaining copy in existence and then I will start a bidding war on e-bay. Maybe I will get $5 or something

darien87,

I totally agree. The goth chick was hot, but that just was not enough.

Yeah the first one was pretty bad as well. Thankfully it came out in my younger days so I snuck into the theatre with some buddies. We all walked out going WTF was that and got drunk to forget :D

Cheers

The first one was pretty bad. All that hype and then a whole lot of nothing... I saw it in the theater too and I think there were about 4 other people there. I never bothered with the second one as a result :)

I never bothered with the second one as a result :)Yeah, we went and saw it after everybody said it was the scariest movie ever. I remember one scene where they woke up one day and someone was missing and there was what looked like a pile of jello outside the tent. We were all hella confused. About 5 or 6 people in the theater were yelling, "What was that?!?!"

I think we all got duped. Who the hell thought that movie was scary?!?! It was just a bunch of shaky camera work and no real payoff at the end.

Until reading about it here, I had no clue that a BW2 had ever been made. I never understood the critical acclaim that the first one received (in fact, I thought it sucked.)

Manos: The Hands of Fate

Mystery Science Theater 3000 did a great job of funny commentary when they showed this movie back in the 90s.

Torgo rules!

some movies that i remember cringing when i saw them :
EYES WIDE SHUT....me and my wife both said , while watching it ...it seems that nicole and tom didnt even know each other ..their chemestry was so BAD together....EYES WIDE SHUT II...micheal jackson and lisa marie presley.

JAWS 3D....after two horrible summers in AMITY ISLAND....the family moves to the caribean islands... and there is a scene where Michael Caine(whos been in a few stinkers) flies a plane with the family too the caribeans,,,,the camera shows the small plane flying, then down to the water and the shark ...........then the shark shows up at the island the family now lives in....what a smart shark....following a small plane a thousand miles.

Jaws 3D is definitely in the running. Micheal Caine really embarrassed himself. Fortunately most of the rest of the cast didn't have much reputation to sully but that had to be right up there on my worst list. It's right up there with Roman Polanski's Pirates.

I did a search and so far no one has mentioned Showgirls as a nominee for this Hall of Shame. It took me a while to remember the title, and had to go to IMDB to recall the "star's" name - Elizabeth Berkley. The movie was certainly forgettable with the exception of her performance which was memorable because it was so, so very bad.

John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars. Man did this movie suck what a waste.

JAWS THE REVENGE is the one with Michael Caine. Jaws 3D is slightly better, but both movies are firmly in the bad movies category.

I don't think I have ever seen anything worse than Lost In Translation (though some equally bad.) How can they make an entire movie where nothing happens? If it is possible to die of boredom, that movie would qualify as a weapon.

I agree with the Lost In Translation! I was coaxed into seeing the Dejeerling Limited this week, and it was so bad I would almost say worse then both of those movies!

I have to slow down my visits here and get out a little more often. I read that as coax-ed. :p

That's OK. I thought there was something really kinky going on when I saw a sign that said "Trucks entering and exciting highway".:o

I do have to say that Lost in Translation is my favorite movie, but it is not a movie for everyone. Most of my friends hated it too. It's a movie about emotions and feelings, not plot or action.

Now a movie that I thought I ended up losing intelligence while I watched it, Freddy Got Fingered. Truely bottom of the barrel entertainment. In fact I think its below the barrel.

I nominate Beowulf 3D.

Thought I was watching Shrek 4.
Dragons & 3D animation.

Beowulf & Grendel LIVE-ACTION with Gerald Butler was 100% better than this piece of !@!$%# 3D animation. Why can't they just use those real live actors?

I have been repressing this movie memory for a couple months now: Dragon Wars.

Everything about it, except special effects, was truly horrible.Acting, directing, plot, everything. My friends and I decided that we had all lost 2 hours of our lives.

Now, back to repressing this memory...

Cool As Ice, this is the Vanilla Ice movie from 1991. Extremely bad, but now being so dated it has turned into quite the comedy. So initital release, worst movie ever, but with age, it has gotten better.

I know things must get pretty boring at times up in Alaska Chucker , but what would ever prompt one to watch a movie starring (let alone including) "Vanilla Ice?" That's akin to a Milli Vanilli saga.:p

Worse than Can't Stop The Music with the Village Fairies? My girlfriend back then basically dragged me to see this abomination. Maybe the word "dragged" is not the description I'm looking for, more liked blackmailed me. How about Xanadu with Olivia Newton-John?

Xanadu ruled!

I was only able to think back about a month and BUGS is the worst thing I have seen in a month.

I am serious about Xanadu; I remember thinking Olivia Newton-John was hot when I was in J.H.

I give everything a chance at least once, and Vanilla deserves his shot, so I watched the movie. Can't say it was a high point in my life but it had to be done

John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars. Man did this movie suck what a waste.

I saw this in the theaters. What a waste of money and time. How a piece of crap like this ever got greenlighted is beyond me.

My vote still goes for Super Troopers.
I lost count at how many time I saw the overhead boom mike slip into the frame.
And to think I paid to see it in the theater.

They played Xanadu on AMC a few weeks back, I saw the first 10 minutes and my eyes started to bleed. Now when it comes to Can't Stop The Music with Bruce Jenner (remember him, Olympic gold medalist) my tv is rigged to explode, bearing enough shrapnel to sever my jugular in several places.

Did that really get a theatrical release? You know I can't remember ever seeing that, though I was not a KISS fan. Now They have the ads for the KISS CD collection (TimeLife, I think) and they include the DVD KISS vsThe Phantom, now I remember a bit, Paul Stanley is a bit effeminate.
