Anyone know of a dvd player that will shut off after a movie instead of sitting at one of the menus for hours on end? I want to minimize the risk of burning in my plasma screen.

Thanks,
Fred

I presume this is because you or someone falls asleep? Because I would think it is a bit odd to put on a movie at home and walk out or not watch it :D My Denon had a selectable shut off - I set it to 30 minutes. I would presume most of the current Denons would do this as well. Almost all Blu-ray players that I have seen in the last few years have a "screen saver" function as well. Does your TV not have a power off if no buttons are pressed feature or a timer so you can just set it for like 2hrs while watching a movie or something?

You know I hadn't thought of using the sleep timer but I still would like to have something that is automatic. My brother is handicapped and watches quite a few movies so it's just bound to happen at some point. I wonder if the feature even exists. Most of the one's I've used have auto-power off or a screen saver but it only kicks in if the player is 'stopped.' The player I am using right now will return to the main menu of the dvd after the main movie finishes and just sit there forever. It'd be great if there is a player out there that will shut off a few minutes after the main movie finishes.

Ahhh, I know what you are talking about. I am not sure if I've seen one that does this. Check out the Oppo 980H though, it at least has the screen saver function that will prevent burn in.

All TVs should have a sleep timer, I'd set that instead of worrying about a stupid ole DVD player shutting off.;)

You can even set up an auto shut off, on ps3.
Simply go to Settings on your bar, and scroll down to Power Settings. Click on it and go to Automatic Shut-Off, and click to set. After setting you will have the option to turn off even under special conditions.
