I knew they stopped making a few of their recent models, but I didn't think they would drop them completely.

As far as DVD goes, that time is over for Oppo according to spokesperson Pan Min. “We have sold out of DVD players and there are no more to come,” he states. “The DVD business is over for us. We are committed to Blu-ray.”

Saw that on another forum...makes sense. I'm thinking they'll release something below the 83 and maybe down the road something audiophile grade with netstreaming.

I wonder how this will affect the US sales by them setting up shop in the UK, will import costs rise?

Yea, with the dollar dropping it might cause the unit prices to go up just based on dollar/pound conversion rates.

AFAIK, their manufacturing is done in China so I don't think cost will change, because I don't think their manufacturing location will change.

The OPPO that was interviewed there was the European company. The US company is essentially a completely separate organization, although the two share BBK's manufacturing resources in China. It's worth noting that while the European company has discontinued the 980H, the US company is still selling it. I'd assumed that the 980H's continued presence was not likely to last for a while lot longer - what I took from the article was a suspicion that there will probably not be any more manufacturing runs produced for the 980H, leaving them just with the inventory already on-hand. It makes sense, considering that the market for a player like the 980H has to be a good bit smaller than it was a couple years ago.
