Need help choosing a 6.1 System

I am new at this so I am asking all of you knowledgeable people for advice and assistance.
I have a budget of about $400 and would like to get the best system possible for the money. I have a dvd player so I only need receiver and speakers.

This is the wrong place to post your question. Try "Beginners and Audiophytes".

$400 is not a lot of money to buy speakers AND a receiver if you want quality components. My suggestion would be to save up some more cash. If that is not possible, your best bet is to look for used equipment on E-Bay. Your only other alternative is a HTIB (Home theater in a box).
