Do you think my speakers are blown?

I'm going to go with "absolutely." You should go out right now and buy new ones.

J/K! :D How would we know? Do they sound okay?

Do you think my speakers are blown?Hard to say without hearing them. What do your ears tell you?

Is the kid doing it when the system is playing back? Does he/she do it when the system is off, and the unit is adjustable while off? Which unit is it?

If it's the Onkyo 805, you can set a preset of volume, which will be the default for every time you turn it on.

Excellent comment. The 805 also lets you set a maximum allowable volume. The max allowable volume is covered on page 96 of the owner's manual, and the "Power On Volume" is described on page 97.

Make sure your 2 yr old reads pg 96 before you let him handle things :D

I've had Universal Remotes lock up for seconds when increasing the volume resulting in it getting very loud unexpectedly. If you aren't hearing anything unusual afterward, then setup the max volume like others have suggested and don't worry about it.

Go out and buy a key-switch that can be wall mounted. That way, the system will only turn on when you want it to. Otherwise, put the receptacle on a wall switch.

Actually, the receiver is still my Sony STR-DB840. It doesn't have the feature that the Onkyo has, because the Onkyo is in the shop getting a minor repair done.

The speakers seem to sound fine. I guess if they were blown, it would be pretty obvious, eh? It was loud enough to wake up the dead....

I'm disappointed in your kid. 11 is one louder. :p

I would say that if nothing is buzzing or sounds awry, then its probably ok.

Often, it's hard to tell when a tweeter is blown off.

True, i guess you have to have a good ear and know what to listen for.
