I know this a forum of nerds and geeks mostly. (sorry to those who aren't)
But my favorite sport is by far College Football. The pagentry, rivalry, bands, fans, and games are just awesome.
For the first time in like 15 years I'm looking at a potential bowl bid for my favorite college, Baylor. For those Buckeyes out there. It's far worse to be Baylor.:)
What does that mean for the national title? Nothing.
Here in the Big 12 south I see 2 teams with national title possibilities. The first for me is Texas. I'm not really a huge Texas fan, but prefer them winning over Oklahoma.
Still I see the top 5 teams this way
1. Florida
2. USC
3. Texas
4. Oklahoma
5. Ohio State
Florida is obvious Tebow returns and is a monster. They have great coaching and talent too.
USC always has the most talent IMO, but they usually take a couple games off. We'll see what happens this year.
Texas is loaded as always and the Red River Shootout(screw the new name)
should be a great game this year.
OU is gonna contend again, but I think Texas is just a little better.
Ohio State may stink in the Championship games, but they will probably win the Big 10 with their only loss coming to USC. And they didn't roll over to Texas last year.
If you like college football share your thoughts. maybe how your favorite team looks and then a top 5.

I think your top 5 is spot on. Coach Meyer and the GATORS are gonna be really really tough. I think we'll see another SEC team crack into the top 5 by the end of the year. I got grief for it all last year but I still think the SEC is the best conference top to bottom. Flame suit strapped on for you Big 12 guys.
The Big 12 had a good season last year and unfortunately was too strong in the south to really shine. But, their bowl record was mediocre and they couldn't beat the SEC in their matchups.
This year will be a good one. I don't see Florida losing a game.

The Tigers? I thought they were the Gators. :)
The sec is a good conference, but Bama lost to Utah so I wouldn't sing to highly.

That is true... I guess there were only 3 matchups last year between the Big 12 and the SEC, Texas V Arkansas, Miss T-tech, Florida OK...
I still think they're better cause I say so...

You're kidding right! Lets see they were 8-2 in last years bowls games. I know Bama lost...:( because IMO Utah played out of their minds) and South Carloina lost but who really cares...;) In the last 10 years they have won 5 BCS Nation title games including the last three BCS championship games...Tennessee in 1999, LSU in 2004 & 2008 and Florida in 2007 & 2009
Even the mighty PAC-10 USC Trojans have won only one title game in that period and are 1-1 in the big game and fwiw you don't want to know the Big 10's & 12's record.

Geeesh........preseason top5??
I am totally in the dark and have no clue. I've been so busy this summer that I have zero info on the 2009 season.
I don't even know the details on the Buckeyes for '09. I know it should be respectable....... I can't wait to watch the opener!!!

Nut...I thought you bled silver and red. A couple of years ago, I tried to give a little love to my (pre-season 10th ranked!) Oregon Ducks, and you were all over me with Buckeye stats and traditions of success and other OSU juice. You MUST have been busy this Summer. ;)
Here's good wishes for both teams to stay healthy and do well. (By the way, the Ducks lost 10 veteran, eligible players in the off-season...mostly due to the change of coaches...Bellotti moved to the AD position and the OC took over.)

My sleeper team this year will be Ole Miss. Their biggest hurdle IMO(:o if they get there!) will be the Gators in the SEC championship game. They have a favourable home schedule and Jevan Snead at the helm, with that offence and the defence really coming around in the later part of last season, they'll suprise a lot of people.
As for the top 5 its always the usual suspects...nothing really changes in that respect!

Isberian... nice to see yet another Baylor dreadfull... I mean hopeless... I mean supporter :).
Our Bears in Green & Gold will finally make a bowl game this year! You planning on going to the BU-TT game at Jerryworld? My wife, me, and 4 other friends are all going, got the $60 tickets... will be cheapest you can get to see a football game in that stadium for a long time... lol

I will be visiting my wife's family for thanksgiving so it's a no go on that game. Make sure you use the Park and Ride. You can go park by Best Buy in North Arlington. Get a water at the bar and they'll give you a free ride to the game.

I'll go out on a limb here and predict this weekend will not be a good one for fans of the Vols or Red Raiders. I'm sure Kiffin will wish he kept his pie hole closed and Texas will lay a beating on TT because they cost them a shot a the National title.

I wouldn't be so sure on the Texas-TT game. Tech always has an offense and is never out of a game regardless of the score. Plus Leach is a damn good coach. It's at DKR though. So Texas will probably win.
The Vols should get crushed badly. That program goes the way of Texas A&M in my opinion.

An easy schedule, but it's progress nonetheless. Notre Dame is overrated and we both know that. Michigan needs to beat Ohio State before I will respect them again.

After seeing what Houston did to OSU I'm excited at the prospect of what are better offense can do.

They always seem to have that one bad road game, last year it was Oregon St and prior to that it was Stanford. In the end they'll win the Pac-10 and lay the smackdown on another overrated Big 10 pansy in the Rose Bowl...:p

Yeah I'm not surprised Washington is back. They went toe-to-toe with LSU and have beaten USC. They have a good chance to win the Pac 10 IMO.
Texas looked pretty good, but not overly impressive. Miami deserves a hard look after another big win.
If Miami starts out 4-0 they should move to #2 IMO.
They've played Florida State, Georgia Tech and have VT and OU next.

No trying to disrespect the Canes, but they beat a couple of ACC teams...:p. They'll still need to prove themselves before they reach that status:). Sure they beat Florida St(I know they pummeled BYU who was lucky to beat OU...imo) and Geo.Tech, but your right the next two games will be huge...:)
BTW what the heck happened to your Bears... I thought UConn was ripe for the taken...

They got shut down by Uconn's defense. It was a rough weekend the only positive was the Titans losing.
Georgia Tech is a very good team. They beat Georgia last year when Georgia was good.
Plus the Canes rolled them.
I think the U may be back. Which would be nice for the ACC. If the U rolls VT and OU they gotta be #2 in my book.

Yeah they rolled Georgia in the second half of their game, but if my memory serves me correctly Tech was rolled by LSU(and the Tigers weren't that good last year) in their Bowl game and Georgia beat Mich.St. You can't draw parallels like that. The Canes will need to run the table to be considered as a major player IMO. That said the SEC will do somebody a favour because they all can't finish with perfect records when they start knocking heads...:D

As it stand Florida-Texas appears to be the game. I think it would be the best game we've had since the USC-Texas game because Mac Brown always does well in bowl games as does Urban Meyer. However upsets for both teams are more likely than not. Football is an any given day kind of game.

The Ole Miss loss really surprised me(afterall they were my darkhorse in the SEC West), but the Canes vs. VT result didn't suprise me. Like I said before who did the Canes beat....now the Oregon score who would of thought....
Good luck tomorrow....;), Bill...:)

Yeah. It's a rough day for Baylor. I guess the program can't catch a break. Still Briles is a good enough coach to still make some noise.
Look at what he left behind in Houston. They just beat Tech and Oklahoma State back to back weeks.

What really sucks is that ticket sales were going better than I have seen in a long time. Now I am sure it is going to trickle back down. Always seems to happen that way for us. Just when you think it might be looking up...
If they would just sell beer at the game!!!! That will never happen.

Yeah but it could mean a medical redshirt. So maybe Briles recruits can get some action with Griffith.
Injuries happen.

An alright weekend, but next weekend should be much more interesting

These are rankings for the computer poll and seem to show us our preconceptions may be misplaced. You'll notice its a combination of record and strength of schedule that determines rankings for this computer poll.
I think it's a bit better than the human polls at this point.

The 1st half numbers favored the Sooners and that 2Q was very sloppily played. Now how about theeee OU losing to Purdue.....:D Iowa looks like the only respectable team in that conference!
