no audio when DTS is set on DVD

Hello to all,

I recently hook up my Yamaha RX-V2400 to my old Pioneer DV-515 DVD Player.
I used optical cable for Digital out,S-cable for Video and RCA-cable for analog connection.
I notice that when i tried to select the DTS feature on my DVD there is no sound output from my reciever(tried different DVD which has DTS feature).Only when i set it to Dolby Digital 5.1 ,sound will be heard from my reciever.This is the first time i will try to use DTS function on my DVD for i have an old Yamaha AVR (RX-V2092) which cannot decode DTS signal.I also noticed that on the DVD player display when i select DTS the "digital out" indicator doesn't light unlike when i select Dolby digital 5.1.
My AVR is set to PLII:Movie,it was also mentioned in the manual that the AVR will automatically select or detect if DTS mode is used.
My input setting on theAVR is "AUTO" for the DVD input.

Does my DVD player really support DTS?i could see it in the logo on the faceplate as well as in the manual.Is there something i miss with the setting on the AVR.My Surround back is set to "none" and presence is "yes".

Hopefully somebody could help me fix this things...i hope i just miss something.

I only use the optical. Unhook the RCA's. I believe the 2400 gives priority to analog. Also, make sure your DVD plaver is set to bitstream for digital output and digital audio output is set to on.

If your player and player's manual have the dts logo, then it is dts capable. I know with my Pioneer DVD player, you need to enable the dts output in the dvd player's setup menus, not just from the dvd disc itself. Look around and see if there is a dts setting in your initial settings or audio setup menus, and make sure it is enabled. It sounds as if you have everything else set and hooked up correctly. Hellol,Well i tried your suggestion and unfortunately it didn't work.Tried different DVD's with DTS and still yhe same result.What puzzle me is why when i choose dts on the menu the "dolby digital" sign on the panel of the DVD player is not "on",but if i choose "Dolby digital 5.1 it is on.
What seems to be the problem with the DVD player?

It seems your dvd player may not be set-up correctly, or has a problem. I tried to find your manual on the Pioneer site with no luck. All I can tell you is to study your audio section of your dvd manual. Good luck. :confused:

I can borrow my Dad's DVD,also a Pioneer but couldn't remember the model but definitely higher than what i have.
But i could only check it this weekend...well i let you know what would be the outcome of the test.I search in google for some manual i found one in three parts but i cannot open it.

Zumbo if his DOLBY 5.1 is working then yanking the analog cords isn't going to help him because the 2400 obviously isn't defaulting to the analog jacks when he's using DD. In my Pioneer's DVD player you have to turn not only 5.1 out, and bitstream, but also you have to tell it that you have a dts capable receiver, otherwise it just defaults to Dolby, EVEN WHEN you select dts on the dvd discs audio choices. So if the player's dts settign is not enabled and you select it as the dts track you will get no output, silence, nada, zip, zero. Dig it? No way for me to be certain that this is what it is, but sure seems that way given the symptoms.

It's working.........great!!! Thanks for the help,it's really difficult since i couldn't find the manual anymore..lost maybe when we move to our new place.
But it's working now somehow i manage to find the menu as per your instruction.
