I just purchased 4 Paradigm Titan speakers. They sound amazing and I am looking for 4 decent stands. Any recommendations?

Ideally, $30-$50 a pair and definitely not over $70.

In that price range, I'd buy a 4' x 4' sheet of 3/4" MDF and make my own. They'll be superior to anything ready-made. If you put them together right, of course. If you don't own a table saw or circular saw, do you have any friends who own such tools? Plus, by making your own, they can be built to the perfect height for your speakers.

I own a pair of Paradigm Titan speakers, and I built my own stands for them.

I just used a railroad wood beam, and cut it right in the middle, then sand it and vernish it, voila, two perfect stands. For two sets of Titans, just get two railroad beams.

Just make sure nobody sees you; go at night with night vision goggles. ;)

You're in B.C.! Are you a frikkin' vampire!? :D It's half-past dark out there!

That's right, that's the time when I'm fresh and focus. :)

Don't you mean "fresh and focusED"? Hee! Hee!

That's exactly what I said! Just have another look. ;)

* Touche. I like that when people correct my English. Yes, you guess it, I'm French. :)

I apologise! I now recall you mentioning in a previous post that you are French. Although I know some French, I'm in no position to criticize your English - it's far superior to my French:o.

Oops! Sorry Titan! I just re-read your post and if you have two pairs of speakers and you make stands out of MDF, you'll need a 4' x 8' sheet. Or, two sheets of 4' x 4', which will be easier to handle. That stuff is HEAVY!

I'm wondering what the ideal speaker stand height would be for my 4 Paradigm Titan speakers. My ear height from the ground is about 40.5 inches. The grills on the speakers don't come off so I can't tell where the tweeter is. I'm guessing it is around 10 inches. The speaker height is 13 inches. Would I be better off to get 31 inch stands or 24?

You could play music and put your ear to the speaker and move around until you hear the tweeter directly - that way there would be no guessing where the tweeter is...

I really don't think it needs to be that precise. I would think that the tweeter is closer to the top than 10 inches, but you're probably close enough. I'll assume your ear height was measured in the sitting position and that you aren't a dwarf. In which case, do you always sit with the same posture? You never slouch? And, is it just you listening? As long as you are within an inch or two, I think you'll be fine. 30 or 31 inch stands should be fine.

If you are using MDF, play it safe, when you make them; stay on slightly shorter side. Then do some listening. If you find that it's too short, it's easy to add height, by attaching little feet to the bottom. The speakers I have mounted on stands right now are a bit taller than the previous speakers, so I added another layer of 3/4 inch MDF to the bases and 1 1/2 inch squares of 3/4 inch MDF at each corner for feet. That brought them up to the height I needed.

If you go with the railroad ties that LOTR suggested, it may be easier to make them on tall side to start with. Attach the platform for the speaker temporarily - screws, but no glue. Then if you need to shorten them, just remove the platform, cut off the post to the height you need and when you are finally happy with the height, glue and screw the platform on.

Hope that's helpful:)

Ear height can be within a few inches; it doesn't need to be exact. If you are going to be off, be higher not lower, especially if you have a hard floor surface.
