Marketing drivel aside, the Expressionist PLUS system looks to be a very interesting "add on" speaker system for your next desktop purchase. At only $99, no one is expecting the moon here. The looks alone will sell a lot of systems. Altec Lansing historically has made very decent speaker systems. TheExpressionist PLUS should prove to be no different.

What an understatement!!! Altec has arguably made some of the finest horn speakers ever produced in history.

They also did the sound in the very first "talky" flick.

I was gonna say that maybe Altec-Lansing hired the same marketing firm that Bose uses, but then Bose wouldn't give you the frequency response data.

I will concede that the Altec of today is not the same company it started out as but your generalization tells me that you have never heard the phrase, "Voice of the Theater". A short search should give you some history.

Altec was purchased by Plantronics a few years ago. Not that their business model didn't change a while before then. They do still offer a few of their legacy speakers direct from their website. They also throw one h.ll of a music festival in our town every summer. It mostly consists of jazz bands, but this year they had Vanessa Carlton as well. Not my type of music but she was very good.
