It only lists brightness as 450cd/m2 and does not give the max contrast ratio. What does that mean? It lists some kind of "dynamic contrast", which I presume is that "auto adjust to current ambient lighting" deal, but that doesn't tell me what I need to know if I can't see the set in person first. CNET said the set was good for the price (on sale right now).

Manufactures don't adhere to standard testing so I've found the specs to be less than usefull. Which model are you looking at?

I am looking at this one: http://www.sharpusa.com/products/ModelLanding/0,1058,2163,00.html $699 at Best Buy. My dad got a similar but smaller model for his den and it seems pretty good so far, so I figured this one might be OK too.

I saw a review of it and it said the rating is the eqivalent of 50K:1 contrast. I bought it and it seems very nice so far. Thanks!
